Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from club members for the beautiful weather we are having. Lion Don rolled the dice for his Birthday and rolled a seven so everyone had to pay a dollar. Then Lion John Smith rolled the dice for his Birthday and rolled a ten paying the tail twister eight dollars.

Cupertino Earth Day – The city of Cupertino earth day celebration will be on April 23rd from 11AM to 3 PM. We are looking at having a small project for the kids to do. Everything is going well. Lion Steve fixed the Lions tent and it is ready to go.

Golf Tournament – Lions Ray said Lion Claire set up a google sheet for volunteer sign ups. Some individuals said they could not sign up that the document would not let them. It was mentioned that individuals need to have a google account to be able to edit the information.

Lion John smith showed slides of a past San Rafael Lions eye clinic that is associated with the Pacific Eye Foundation and helped about three hundred individuals. They are going to have another eye clinic on May 15th and Lion John was asking for individuals to volunteer and go up to learn the process so that our club might hold one in the future.

Club Officers – Lion Al read the list of the 2022-2023 club officers for the second time at the AM meeting.

Good of the Order –

Lion Al said the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters (SCCROV) has scheduled our club for the Los Gatos Creek supply truck May 28th thru June 7th. He is waiting for further information on the courier requirements.
Lion Al said he is currently off the list serve and is not able to make changes or additions to it.
Lion Steve said the next crab feed is scheduled for February 4, 2023.
Lion Kent mentioned he talked with Dennis Whitaker and Dennis gave him a list of speakers that we might want to schedule for our meetings.
Lion Barbara said she tried to contact Lion Sudha concerning the the Ride 4 Diabetes but has been unsuccessful as she is out of country. The Ride will possibly be postponed until next year.
Lion Ray said the contract for the golf tournament has been signed and we will be playing at Spring Valley Golf club in Milpitas. The flyer for the golf tournament is being worked on, so now we need to start getting golfers and sponsors.

Board Announcements –

It was announced the club received $4,605 in donations for the Crab feed.
Lion AL read the nomination list of Club Officers for the 2022 thru 2024. The AM members were all in acceptance of the nominations.
Lion Barbara said she had talked with Lion Sudha concerning the Ride4Diabetes that is being looked at for later this year. Lion Sudha said she will help setting it up but she will need someone to manage it in September as she will be out of town.
Lion Al said charitable donations are going out this month to the YWCA, YMCA, the Fisher House and others. So far this fiscal year we have supported our charities with a total of $23,746 in donations.
The Board approved a club picnic for July16, 2022 from 10 AM – 3 PM. This picnic will include the installation of Club Officers,Tail Twister Party, and Charter Day. Lion Prez Jeff will take charge of the event. We are looking at BBQing Tri-Tip with club members bringing side dishes. Individuals can bring beer and wine.

Student Speakers Contest – Lion Ray said the Zone Student Speaker contest was held on March 12, 2 PM at the Sunnyvale Community Services building at 1160 Kern Ave, Sunnyvale, CA. There were four speakers with a student from Monta Vista High School winning the contest. Next is the Regional Student Speaker contest to be held at the Sunnyvale Community Center in April.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray said the Golf Tournament is moving along. We are still looking at getting golfers and sponsors. Discussions were held concerning major sponsors and what perks they should get for being a major sponsor.

Camp Via Garden – Lion Joan said we currently have about twenty different crops growing but they are currently infested with aphids. We are looking at a organic way to get rid of them. Another issue with the garden is the extreme changes in weather and temperature. On the good side is Lion Dagi has planted new vegetables in the green house and they are doing fine. Lion Steve is working on the irrigation system in the lower garden area. Lion Joan also mentioned that weeds around the garden are being held at bay because we have laid down both hay and oak leaves which are inhibiting their growth. Lion Joan said Rick at the camp is is a little under the weather.

ROV – The club has been in contact with the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters (ROV) and we are set for the Los Gatos Creek supply site. The ROV is still working on the courier sites as they have not been decided upon yet.

Lion John Smith talked about Lion Claire’s email concerning the support of Abuzar Royesh who is a Stanford grad student and started 30 Birds organization to help evacuate Afghani girls from the country after the US forces left in August. He is still working on evacuating several hundred girls.
Lion John Smith also talked about the Lions club in San Rafael which will host a clinic on how to make Referrals to the Lions Eye Foundation for eye services including surgery.
Lion Don wanted to say thank you to our Lions club for supporting the ODD FELLOWS pancake breakfast. He said it was the best turnout yet.
Lion Al said we have received Lions brochures from LCI that we can use for the Cupertino Earth Day in April. He said everything is a go for Earth Day.
Lion Ray said he talked with the manager of the Sunnyvale Community Services and they do more than distribute food to the community and that their major mission is to help keep people housed and not homeless.

Project Linus – Lion Leslye said she has turned in 110 blankets and is waiting on 35 more for a total of 145 blankets for the project. Thank you and a great job Lion Leslye and Lion Claire.

Student Speakers Contest – The Zone Student Speaker contest is March 12, 2 PM at Sunnyvale Community Services building at 1160 Kern Ave, Sunnyvale, CA. Please come and support our clubs speaker.

Odd Fellows Pancake Breakfast – Lion Don and the Odd Fellows club will be doing their annual charity Pancake Breakfast Saturday March 12, 2022 from 8 AM to 11 AM at 20589 W. Homestead Road Cupertino, CA. We need a good turnout from the Lions club to support the Odd Fellows. You will be able to eat either inside or outside.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray said it is time to start getting golfers for our annual tournament on June 20, 2022 at Spring Valley Golf Course. He would like to have a preliminary head count
by the end of March so we can see where we stand. Lion Eli said he would contact the Auburn Lions club. Lion Ray will contact another group who usually has a couple of foursomes. We can use the courses wi-fi to help people charging purchases, we will need a couple of Square charging units to enable us to do that.

Earth Day – Lion Joan said she has the supplies and Lion Steve has the Lions tent. We will need at least one table and two chairs from storage. The spot has been reserved for our tent. Lion Dagi has planted a couple of sunflowers seeds to see how they would work as part of our give away to the children. This day is to educate the children and adults on how to grow a garden. Lion Barbara has ordered membership literature from LCI so we would have it to hand out for interested individuals.

Lion Dagi suggested that we might add an additional Director to the Board in charge of the Camp Via Garden project. Lion John said he would check the clubs by-laws to see if it was okay.

Lion Joan said that the City of Cupertino was opening up the compost area at the end of March and that we might want to look at getting another truck load. She also mentioned that Rhonda Nourse the Associate Director of Advancement at Camp Via if we would like to help in a beautify project around the camp. Further discussions will be held.

Club Officers – Lion John Smith talked about the club officers for the 2022 – 2024 time frame. Now that they have been confirmed he will announce them at the next PM meeting. He announced the confirmed club officers for the 2022-2024 years at the AM meeting this morning. He also mentioned the Board of Directors and the various areas that they would be focused on. Lion John will send out an email concerning this issue shortly. The slate of Officers needs to be submitted to LCI by April 15, 2022.

P.M. Meeting Review –

The 2021-2022 Annual Charity Golf Tournament was discussed. Everything is ready to go, if you are available to assist on that day, let Lion Ray know, we will need some volunteers.

The Primary Election is coming up May 28th through June 7, 2022, again we are trying to provide volunteers to the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters. An email will be forth coming as to how you may participate. There are 8AM to 5PM positions paying our Club $115.00 daily and 5PM to 8PM positions paying our Club $65.00. At the Last election DeAnza Lions raised over $6,600.00 for charity. Contact Lions Al or John to volunteer.

A discussion was held regarding the April 23, 2022, Cupertino Earth Day. Lions Joan, Barb, Leslye, and Ray have volunteered to attend on a Thursday 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Cupertino City Hall. Great time to interface with kids and introduce the public to Lionism.

Lions Leslye and Claire have spearheaded Project Linus and anticipate there will be one- hundred and forty-four completed blankets. Sharing with two schools has provided our best effort ever.

There will be a 13th Annual Herman Deville Memorial Pancake Breakfast at the Odd Fellows Hall from 8AM to 11AM on Saturday 3/12/2022. This is a $10.00 great breakfast to assist the Odd Fellows who are superb perennial supporters of the DeAnza Lions Club, be there. Proceeds to benefit the City of Hope Cancer Center

Lions John and Barb have reached a consensus on confirmed Officers and Directors for 2022-2024 fiscal year period. Those Lions will be announced at the 3/3/2022 AM Group Meeting, published immediately thereafter to the Club, and announced again at the next two AM Group meetings and a final announcement at the April 6, 2022 PM Group meeting. Despite the Nominating Committees efforts an open nomination period will be held and subsequent voting as necessary. Deadline for submission of the 2022-2023 Officers and Directors to Lions Clubs International is 4/15/2022.

Student Speakers Contest – Lion Ray said he would check on the date for the Zone Student Speakers contest.

Odd Fellows Pancake Breakfast – Lion Don and the Odd Fellows club will be doing their annual charity Pancake Breakfast Saturday March 12, 2022 from 8 AM to 11 AM. We need a good turnout from the Lions club to support the Odd Fellows since they help our Lions Club with the Thanksgiving food Drive and the Student Speaker contest. Hope to see you there. Lion Don said the Odd Fellows are currently having a membership drive currently. You will be able to eat either inside or outside.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray said it is time to start getting golfers for our annual tournament on June 20, 2022 at Spring Valley Golf Course. Lion Ray said he has five golfers already committed from his Wednesday golf group. He would like to have a count of golfers by the end of May as we need to let the golf course know whether we are going thru with the tournament so we can get our deposit back if need to cancel it. We need a minimum of forty- eight golfers and hoping for at least seventy-two. If you would like to play you can let Lion Ray know or there is an application on the DeAnza Lions website. We are looking for a couple of volunteers for the event so if your are interested in volunteering please let Lion Ray know.

Lion Barbara Knox said we need to update the district directory and she will be contacting club members to make sure all of their information is correct. She needs to turn this in by April 15, 2022.

Lion Kent mentioned that the Monta Vista Leo’s are looking at volunteering with the Registrar of Voters to help with their fund raising.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from club members for Lion Leslye and Project Linus. Lion Steve also gave a happy dollar for his wife Ellen’s twin sister visit.

Board Meeting review – Lion Leslye said there were only three Board members in attendance so there was no quorum. Another Board meeting will be set up.

Student Speaker Contest – The student Speaker contest consisted of three high school students. A winner was picked and will go onto the Zone contest. It was brought up that the club needs to follow the rules set up for the student speaker contest as we only had one judge and we should have at least three. The zoom presentation went well but we need more participation as far as judges, timers, and tellers.

Golf Tournament – The flyer for the tournament has been completed and sent out to club members so we can start recruiting golfers. The club needs at least 48 golfers minimum to hold the tournament and we would like at least 72. Discussions were held concerning the different grouping of golfers, if you have any ideas please pass them forward to Lion Ray or Eli. Lion Steve said we have received a couple more donations for the Raffle/Auction. It was talked about giving out certificates instead of plaques too winners to help keep the cost down.

Project Linus – Project Linus will be held this Saturday February 26th via Zoom from 10:00 am til 11:30 am like we did last year which was very successful. Lion Leslye said it looks like we will make approximately 144 blankets for Project Linus. Lion Leslye said she would like to have all the blankets completed and turned into her by Wednesday March 2nd. Lion Leslye said this will be the clubs 12th year doing Project Linus.

Camp Via West Garden – Lion Joan said the we have captured four moles and one ground squirrel so far. The company we have hired to help us with the mole problem will come out tomorrow for their third visit. Lion Danessa is learning how to help with the capture of these little devils. Lion Joan said she harvested quite a bit yesterday and donated it to West Valley Community Services.

Lion John S. gave a report on the club officer nominating committee and that he was disappointed that we were not able to have get a lady 1st VP that would be our next President in 2 yrs. If you are interested is this position please contact Lion John Smith or Lion Barbara Knox. Lion John said that the job could be as small or as large as the President wants to take on.
Lion John reported on helping out at the Hunger at Home event and said they filled approximately 200 cars with food. He also mentioned that since the inception of the program they have served over 8.1 million meals. Lion John said he could see this as an event that we could support in the future both financially and with volunteers.
Lion John said that he and Lion Al will coordinate the Santa Clara Valley Registrar of Voters (ROV) efforts with club volunteers. During the last election the club made approximately six thousand dollars for the clubs charity. Lion John will send out information and a request for volunteers to the club for the elections in June and again in November.

Lion Steve said he and Lion Prez Jeff are working on the wifi system at Tony and Albas to help improve the PM zoom meeting experience.

P.M. meeting review –

Cupertino Earth Day – The city of Cupertino is having an earth day celebration on April 23rd from 11AM to 3 PM and asked if the club would like to participate. We are looking at having a small project for the kids to do concerning the well being of the planet.

Golf Tournament – Lion’s Ray said we signed a contract with Spring Valley Golf Course in Milpitas. The tournament will include a lunch and steak dinner. It was brought up that the auction items that we had for the Charity Crab feed will be used for the golf tournament which is worth approximately $2,300.
Project Linus – Project Linus will be held on February 26th via Zoom as we did last year which was very successful. Lion Leslye said Lion Claire has two schools who want to participate. The schools have a budget of $1,300 and the club has a budget of $600. Those who want to participate needs to contact Lion Leslye and she will set up a bag with their requested fleece and other items so they can swing by her home and pick them up from her front porch. Lion Leslye said she will need paper shopping bags to put the items in so if you have any to donate please let her know.

Club Officers – Lion Prez Jeff appointed Lion’s Barbara, John S. and himself on the committee to look for new officers for the club. Currently we need a 1st & 2nd Vice President along with some committee members.

Good of the Order –

A discussion was also held concerning the attendance at the P.M. meeting which has been very low since the pandemic started. It was discussed about how we could get back to a normal PM meeting, like possibly alternating PM meeting sites between Holders Country Inn and Tony and Alba’s. We need to send out a survey on this matter. Members should make a commitment to attend at least one meeting per month.

Lion Kent talked about having a social director for the club to help set up events for club members to attend and get back to socializing with each other.
Discussions were held concerning the Camp Via West garden and the problem we are having with “Bernard” the mole and possibly ground squirrels. Lion Joan said she talked with someone concerning the problem and they are going to try and resolve it for us. It was also brought up that the heater in the green house is not working, so the plantings we have in there are not doing well because of the cold weather we are having.

Cupertino Earth Day – It was brought to our attention that the city of Cupertino is having an earth day celebration on April 23rd and asked if the club would like to participate. We need to have our application in by the end of the 2nd week in February.
There was also a discussion on applying for a grant from the San Jose Water Company .

Golf Tournament – Lion’s Ray, Ron, and Eli met with the tournament manager at Spring Valley Golf Club in Milpitas. Discussions were held concerning the cost and the amenities. A written contract will be provided to submit to the Board for final discussion. The tournament will be held on Monday June 20, 2022. The tournament cost will need to be determined.

Club Officers – Discussions were held concerning the upcoming selection of club officers. Volunteers for the offices will be accepted. Currently we have volunteers from Lion’s John Smith, Al Knox, and Dagi Zimdahl. Club officers need to be submitted to LCI by April 15th. It was brought up that a succession of officers need to be established were as the 1st VP will move up to be President and so forth. The term for officers is 2 yrs. Lion John said he will contact Lion Prez Jeff to discuss setting up a nominating committee for club officers. It was also brought up that LCI has all the club information and you can access this information through the “MYLION” app.

Good of the Order –

Lion Don’s wife is in for heart valve replacement surgery. All our prayers are going to her for a successful surgery.
Discussions were held concerning the Camp Via West garden and the problem we are having with “Bernard” the mole and possibly ground squirrels. Discussion were held about hiring a professional individual to control the problem.

Lion Recognition – Lion Ray passed out several recognition awards one for Lion VJ (15 yrs.) which he gave to Lion Eli to pass on, the other to Lion Bill Reed (30yrs.) who he presented over Zoom and will give it to him the next time he sees him.

Board Meeting Review –

It was mentioned that letters were sent to all of the individuals that purchased tickets to the Crab Feed that they could request a refund of their money or make it a contribution to the clubs Charity Account. If we do not get a response from the individual the money will go into the Charity account. So far $2,770 dollars has been donated and $600 has been refunded.
The Board agreed to donate $500 to the Monterey Building fund for the Blind Center.
Discussions were held concerning the upcoming annual Golf Tournament. Several golf courses were asked to provide information on holding a golf tournament this year in the June timeframe. Out of the four requested we only have had one response so far.
Lion Steve mentioned that the auction/raffle items for the cancelled crab feed will be used for the golf tournament. There were two items that had specific dates that they had to be used on and they both have been sold.
The Board also discussed the sending out of invoices for club member dues on a yearly basis. Several members who have been behind in paying their dues for whatever reason have been removed from the member list.
Information on the Student Speaker contest has been sent to Lion Sudha.
Lion Prez Jeff will send a message to Lion Sudha about R4D.
Golf Tournament – A group will go down to Spring Hill Golf Corse in Watsonville to check it out for the tournament.
Discussions about club officers serving a 2 year term with the 1st VP moving up to President after their term is up, this would move other officers up with the other club officers. The club president may appoint nominating committee to nominate and explain the duties of the various officers.
Lion John Smith and Lion Al Knox have volunteered for a couple of the offices. Lion Jill is stepping down from her directorship. The list of new officer needs to be into LCI by April 15, 2022.

Two new club banners have been ordered for the club at a cost of $324 and will be delivered in 3-4 weeks.
Name badges for club members that do not have one will be ordered. They cost six dollars each.
Lion Leslye plans on having a Zoom Linus Project on the last Saturday of February. Lion Claire has two schools which will participate. Project Linus has a budget of $600 dollars.
Lion Joan said that she is still having a problem with Bernard the mole and is seeking suggestions on how to get rid of him.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from club members for 49’ers and Raiders wins and dollars for just be- ing here.
Meeting Update – Lion Ray announced that the A.M. meeting will start at 8:45 AM starting next Thursday the 20th. Lion Ray also talked about upcoming club officers for the 22-23 year. There is a need for new club officers, Board members and a new Treasur- er.
Lion Recognition – Lion Ray passed out several recognition awards starting with Lion Al Knox for forty years of service and Lion Don Lang for twenty-five years of service. Three other awards will be given to the awardees when they are present. Lion Al also read a congratulations letter from LCI for our 100% club participation to LCI.

Crab Feed – The 2022 Crab Feed has been officially cancelled. Lion Dagi talked about the clubs website banner still showed the Crab Feed and should see put on there that it was canceled and asked what she should replace it with. Cancellation notices were sent out to all the individuals who had bought tickets or donated funds to the crab feed. The church said the club will receive the re- fund for the hall deposit if we want it or leave it for next years crab feed. The donations for the Auction/Raffle will be saved for the Golf Tournament except for the Golden State Warriors game tick- ets which have been sold and theater tickets which also have been sold.
Golf Tournament – A group will go down to Spring Hill Golf Corse in Watsonville to check it out for the tournament.
Student Speaker Contest – Information on the Student Speaker contest has been sent to Lion Sudha.
Good of the Order –
• Lion Ray talked about name tags for all club members. Lion Al will check with the new club members and we asked any current members if they need a name tag let either Lion Ray, Ron , or Al know so we can order them. Lion Dagi said she had hats and jackets for those who would like to purchase one.
• Lion Herb announced he would not be in attendance next week.
• Lion John and Lion Al attended the Zone meeting where they discussed the current COVID situation and a grant for Diabetes informational training of Lion members.
• Lion’s Ray, Leslye and John worked at the eye glass recycling center on Saturday.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations Lion Don won.
