Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from club members for a successful golf tournament and the upcoming Fourth of July.

Golf Tournament – Lion Al said we will net approximately six thousand dollars for the tournament. Final numbers will be out shortly. Lion Ray asked for any suggestions on how to make the golf tournament better, you can just send him an email. So far all responses have been positive.

Camp Via – Lion Joan said said the merger between Camp Via West and AbilityPath has been announced. We are excited to announce that effective July 1, 2022, Via Services officially becomes affiliated with AbilityPath, making the newly combined nonprofit one of the largest providers of services for individuals with developmental disabilities on the Peninsula, offering the most comprehensive portfolio of services throughout a person’s lifetime. Both organizations share a common mission and vision for the future: ensuring those we serve achieve their full potential and are included in all aspects of our community – from the classroom to the workplace. Lion Joan said the harvesting of vegetables has been increasing from winter into summer.

ITC Picnic – Lion Barbara talked about the upcoming ITC Picnic which will be held on July 17th starting at 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Cupertino Memorial Park, with lunch at noon. Lion Barbara said we currently have twenty eight people signed up for the event. Attached to the meeting minutes is the flyer for the party.

Good of the Order –

Lion Leslye said the Clubs newsletter was going well and will be sent out to the club shortly.
Lion Al read a letter the Lions received from Camp Via West. The letter is attached so all Lion members can read it.
Lion Al presented the 2022-2023 budget to the AM club on June 30th for vote and it was accepted. He will now present it to the P.M. club at their next meeting on July 6th, 2022 for final approval.
Lion’s Barbara, Al, and Steven with his wife Ellen are taking a trip to Watsonville today to deliver clothing and other items for the local farmworkers.
Lion Ron read an email he received from the “Fish Market” stating that it was closing the Santa Clara Fish Market for good but the “Fish Markets” in Palo Alto and San Mateo will continue operating.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from club members for a successful golf tournament.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray wanted to thank all of the volunteers that worked on the golf tournament. He especially wanted the thank Lion Steve and Ellen for their hard work doing the silent auction and the raffle you are our hero’s, along with Lion’s Barb and Al Knox. Lion Al said a rough estimate on net proceeds is that we will make about six thousand dollars for charity. Lion Al will come up with the final count in about a week. Lion Steve said it was the best silent auction that we have had. Everyone wanted to thank Lion Dagi for the great Brag Board that she created. There were a couple of minor issues one concerning a tee sign and one concerning a golf cart that we need to check on.

Camp Via – Lion Joan said camp manager Rick said that the new floor cleaner/buffer works great and wants to thank the De Anza Lions for all they have done for the camp. Lion Joan said she got a couple of volunteers to help out in the garden. Lion Joan said that Camp Via West will be taken over in the future by another non-profit.

Vista Blind Center – Lion Ray said he had been contacted by Becky Stuart and Lisa Quan from the Vista Blind center to see if the club would be interested in helping out with trimming trees and bushes around the building in July or August. Lion Ray will bring it up to the Board to see if we wanted to donate to their cause so they could hire someone to do the trimming.

ITC Picnic – Lion Barbara talked about the upcoming ITC Picnic which will be held on July 17th starting at 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Memorial Park, with lunch at noon. Attached to the meeting minutes is the flyer for the party for your info.

Lion Al said we had an issue with one of the time sheets for an ROV worker. He will get more info.
Lion Al said the 2022-2023 budget was approved by the Board
and will present it to the AM club on June 30th and the PM club
on July 6th for final approval.
Lion Barbara said there would be a trip to Watsonville next week for those of you who have any clothes to go down bring them to the AM meeting on June 30th.
Lion Eli said Lion Anne Harris is out of the hospital and staying with her son.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from club members for the Warriors and for a win tonight.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray said the tournament is this monday. We still need volunteers so please go out and sign up on the google sheet sent out. We currently have eleven tee signs and are hoping for more. Registration is at 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM Shotgun Start with Cart Included and a Scramble Format with lunch to go. Lion Ray said we could still use a few more golfers currently we have forty-nine. We will go to storage Monday morning 10 AM to pick up what is necessary for the tournament.

Camp Via – Lion Joan said camp manager Rick received the check from the Lions and the floor cleaner/buffer has been ordered. Lion Joan said the camp had a Covid outbreak and is currently closed and the children were sent home early. Lion Joan said she has talked with Camp Via Administrator who said she
might be able to get a couple of volunteers to help out in the garden.

Budget Meeting – The budget meeting was held with eight Lion members in attendance. The budget will be submitted to the board at the Board meeting on June 21, 2022 for approval. After board approval the budget will be presented to the club for final approval.

Lion Ray let the club know that Lion Anne Harris was in the hospital and hopefully be released to go home today or tomorrow.
Lion Ray also talked about a new fund raiser called crazy golf which would be held at a miniature golf place. He will continue to check into it and let us know what he finds out.
It was also mentioned that if you buy anything from Amazon
you should sign up for Amazon Smile and select the DeAnza
Lions Charities as your charity and a portion of the purchase will
go to our Charity fund.
Lion Ray said he will be making a trip to Vallejo to deliver the
glasses and hearing aids that the club has collected.
Lion Ray and Lion Steve will be making a trip to Watsonville
to deliver clothing for the farm workers on June 30th.

May 22, 2021 Hunger at Home event has been cancelled.

The Board of Directors meeting unapproved minutes of 5/18/2021 were discussed at length. A motion to insert the necessary by-law information pertaining to the Endowment Fund was passed unanimously. A motion to move forward with the committee’s recommendations on Endowment Fund investment passed unanimously. A motion to expend three hundred dollars ($300.00) to reserve the City of Cupertino Park for an upcoming golf related event passed with Six (6) Aye, two (2) No and one (1) Abstention.

A discussion was held in depth about the status of the Via Garden needs. It was stated the summer crop is requiring a “massive harvest.” Many Lions or friends of Lions assistance is needed. Please contact Lion Joan if you are available at any time, more specifically this Saturday May 22, 2021 at 1:30 PM.

Lion Ray will be contacting Holder’s regarding the possibility of in-person/Zoom meetings beginning May 27, 2021. Suggested meeting time is 9:00 AM.

The DeAnza Lions have nominated the following members to serve as Officers and Members of the Board of Directors for the upcoming fiscal year: President Jeff Ludlum, 1st Vice President Vijay Caveripakkam, 2nd Vice President Leslye Noone, Secretary/Treasurer Alan Knox, Board Directors Jill Eliason, Jen Smith, Sudha Kasamsetty, Claire Kalia and Ray Lancon. Any further nominations or objections should be voiced immediately to The Chairman of the Board, Lion President Jeff Ludlum.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from club members for Warriors loss and a good trip to Watsonville farm workers. Lion John donated to the Tail Twister for the last couple of meetings he did not attend in person.

Camp Via – Lion Joan said there was a lot going on at the camp. A work party (Steve, Ray, Bill H., and Ron) went to the garden to fix the sagging shade wires. Lion Ray said he talked with the camp manager about the equipment they are trying to get to help with cleaning the bungalows. Lion Ray talked with a member of the Cupertino Rotary to see if they might help in purchasing the equipment.

San Rafael Lions Vision Clinic – Lions John, Leslye, and Trevor will attend the eye clinic this Saturday May 15th in San Rafael.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray said we are getting close to the number of golfers we need to hold the tournament. He wanted to thank Lion Don for getting a foursome of golfers from the ODD-FELLOWS hall to participate in our tournament. Lion Steve said we have donations for the raffle/auction. Lion Ray said one of our members tried to register for the tournament on line but was not able to.

Discussion was held on the upcoming Budget meeting and it was decided to hold it at 2PM on June 11th in Lion Al’s house/garage.
Discussions were held about the check provided to the Lions school in India that has not been cashed from last year. Lion Al is trying to get an answer on what is going on.
Lion Eli asked about setting up a committee to look at new ways of raising funds for the club. Lion John said we need to look at Social media to help in the fund raising effort.

P.M. Meeting Review –

Golf TournamentDiscussions held on the upcoming golf tournament. We still need more golfers. We have ten golfers paid with a total of thirty pledged. We need a minimum of 48 golfers. The club will send a copy of our golf tournament flyer to the district for them to put on the District web site. The golf tournament on June 20th at Spring Valley Golf Course in Milpitas. Please talk with your friends and contacts so we can continue this major fund raising event. We need to know by May15th so we can let the golf course know. If we do not have enough golfers we can get our $1,000 deposit back.
ROV training is now available in person or on Zoom. Lion Al sent out the schedule so you can get training on your own time schedule. Lion Al said if we fulfill all our obligations we should make approximately seven thousand dollars for the club. There are two areas that we need help with. If you can volunteer please let Lion Al know.
We currently have four delegates signed up for the the District convention.

Camp Via – Lion Joan said the the shade cables need to be tightened so they can walk under them. A work party (Steve, Ray, Bill H., and Ron) will be there at 10 A.M. on Tuesday to fix them. Lion John said he would meet Lion Joan at the garden this afternoon. Lion Joan said that Rick (manager of Camp Via) talked to her about the need for an item that would run about two thousand dollars. This will be discussed at the next Board meeting.

San Rafael Lions Vision Clinic – Lions John, Leslye, and Trevor will attend the eye clinic on May 15th in San Rafael.

R4D vs Golf Tournament – Discussions were held about putting more effort into the Ride 4 Diabetes if we cannot get the golf tournament back on track. A time and date needs to be set early in the year so bike riders can put it on their calendar.

Board Meeting Review –

Discussions held on the ITC party and it was approved for Sunday July 17 at the Cupertino City Memorial Park from. 11am – 3pm. The affair will be catered.
Currently we have 26 golfers signed up for the golf tournament on June 30th at Spring Valley Golf Course in Milpitas.
We need a minimum of 48 golfers to have the tournament so
please talk with your friends and contacts so we can contin-
ue this major fund raising event. We need to know by May
15th so we can let the golf course know so if we do not have
enough golfers we can get our $1,000 deposit back.
There was a motion set forth to cancel the Ride4Diabetes
this year and it was passed.
The List of Club Officers for 2022-2023 was submitted to LCI.
It was approved to spend $170 dollars for an add in the current 4-C6 directory.
Lion Al said he was finally able to get into the google list serve so he can update it.
ROV training for the upcoming election is available so this volunteers for the election can schedule their training in person or via Zoom.
So far this year we have met our budget obligations donating $20,937.10. We still have approximately $10,000 yet to give.
Club dues will be billed annually starting July 1, 2022.

Earth Day – It was reported that there were numerous people who attended and stopped by our booth and enjoyed the updated Brag board done by Lion Dagi. The volunteers Joan, Dagi, Leslye, Barbara, Al, Ray, and Ron. Not only were the kids excited by our display but also the adults. A couple of membership applications were handed out.

Camp Via – Compost will be picked up today and taken to the camp. We need volunteers at the camp to help shovel the compost out of the truck. Lion Joan said the harvest of vegetables has been exceptional and donated to the West Valley Community Services until the school is open for the kids. We need some volunteers at the camp and Lion Barbara said she would contact Lion Sudha about Leo volunteers and Lion Kent will check with the Monta Vista Leos. Lion Joan also said the wires holding up the shade cloth needs to be adjusted again. We will get a work party together to fix the issue.

Lion Dagi will be traveling starting at the end of May.
Lion John will also be traveling in June.
Lion Steve said if we do not have the golf tournament he will need help with the donations we have received.
Lion Barbara said that Lion Bill Reed had fallen and is currently going thru therapy.
Lion’s Barbara and Leslye have volunteered to help Grateful Garments at their open house on April 30, 2022.
Lion Trevor has volunteered to help with the list serve and maybe help with the website in the future.

Cupertino Earth Day – A brief discussion was held regarding the April 23, 2022, Cupertino Earth Day. Lion Dagi is working on the Brag Board. Everything is set to go. Lion Joan talked about the problem the world has with soil erosion. Lion’s ray and Ron will get the Lions tent and table from the storage unit. Lion Al will bring weights for the tent in case of wind.

Golf Tournament – The 2021-2022 Annual Charity Golf Tournament was discussed. Everything is ready to go, if you are available to assist on that day let Lion Ray know, we will need some volunteers. Currently we have twenty to thirty golfers committed so we need at least forty-eight but would like to get seventy-two golfers. So far one Silver Sponsor (Foursome) and two Tee Sponsors paid. We will also need the square units so we can accept credit cards from golfers to pay for their golf and other items they might purchase.

ROV – The Primary Election is coming up May 28th through June 7, 2022. Lion Al sent out an email with the training schedule for the LaSC and the couriers. You can take the training either on Zoom or in person.

TCI Party – The TCI party date has been moved from July 16th to July 17th, 2022 for the Tail Twister Party, Club Installation, and Charter Day at the Cupertino City Memorial Park. The catered event will start at 11 A.M. til 3 P.M. Lunch will be served at noon. This will be presented to the Board on 4/26/2022.

Camp Via Garden Update – The compost pickup has been scheduled for April 28th at 10:45 AM. We will need several (6-8) volunteers to help shovel the compost from the pickup truck at the garden area. Please let Lion Joan or Lion Ray know if you are available to help. Lion Joan said they are harvesting different vegetables at this time and providing them to West Valley Community Services until the Camp Via West school reopens.

Guest Speaker – Lisa J. Blanchard from The Grateful Garment Project that provides victims of sexual violence the clothing and other resources they need to reclaim their dignity and begin the healing process.  They work with hospitals, shelters, law enforcement and other nonprofits to meet victims’ immediate needs after a crisis, and support their ongoing needs along their road to recovery

Cupertino Earth Day – A brief discussion was held regarding the April 23, 2022, Cupertino Earth Day. Lions Joan, Barb, Leslye, Al, and Ray have volunteered to attend on Saturday April 23, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Cupertino City Hall. Great time to interface with kids and introduce the public to our Lions club. Lion Barbara said she has received the informational pamphlets about Lions clubs from LCI to distribute to the public.

TCI Party – The TCI party date has been moved from July 16th to July 17th 2022 for the Club Installation, Tail Twister Party and Charter Day at the Cupertino City Park.

Camp Via Garden Update – Lion Joan and Dagi have been working tirelessly at the garden. Plants are getting ready to transplant from the green house to the garden area. The compost pickup has been scheduled for April 28th at 10:45 AM. We will need several volunteers to help shovel the compost out of the pickup truck at the garden area. Please let Lion Joan or Lion Ray know if you are available to help.

P.M. Meeting Review –

Guest – Los Gatos Lion Stan Wiseman was present and campaigning for his election to District 4C6 2nd Vice District Governor. His presentation established his history and accomplishments as a Lion.

Golf Tournament – The 2021-2022 Annual Charity Golf Tournament was discussed. Everything is ready to go, if you are available to assist on that day, let Lion Ray know, we will need some volunteers. ROV – The Primary Election is coming up May 28th through June 7, 2022, again we are trying to provide volunteers to the Registrar of Voters. So far, we will be able to match the efforts accomplished in the last election. Contact Lion Al to volunteer.

Cupertino Earth Day – A brief discussion was held regarding the April 23, 2022, Cupertino Earth Day. Lions Joan, Barb, Leslye, Al, and Ray have volunteered to attend on a Saturday 4/23/2022 at 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Cupertino City Hall. Great time to interface with kids and introduce the public to Lionism.

Club Officers – Final announcement of Lions confirmed as willing to serve as officer and director positions for the 2022-2024 fiscal period was read. Final day for nominations is 4/8/2022.

TCI Party – Apparently, the reserved date of July 16th for the Club Installation, Tail Twister Party and Charter Day is in jeopardy for attendance. An attempt will be made to move the date to July 17th.

Lion Joan said the City of Cupertino compost is now available. She will set up a date to get some for the Camp Via garden.
