Earth Day 2026 – April 5th, 2026, Cupertino
As in previous years, the Cupertino DeAnza Lions club under the leadership of Lion Sue secured two spaces at the Cupertino Earth Day and Arbor festival, which was scheduled for April 5th. At first, we were a bit baffled that the event was on the Saturday before Easter Sunday, and not near the official Earth Day (April 22nd), plus it was no longer on the Greens behind the Cupertino library, but in the courtyard in front of it, but it turned out to be a perfect day, and a perfect event.
A few strong lions helped to get canopies, extra tables and chairs from our storage to the event, and with a few seasoned fellow lions and volunteers we did our usual activities: invited passers-by to seed sunflowers, get some free seeds and view our immense brag board. Some folks stopped to get some information about Lions Clubs, and volunteers/helpers from Camp Via West spent some time helping out at the booth. A stuffed Lion mascot was a special attraction for kids – we made sure this lion was chained to the table.
It’s quite a bit of work to get ready for this event, seeding and planting some show pieces, preparing seed packets, and getting ad materials together, but I’m sure we’ll have another good crew at next year’s festival.
