Annual Golf Tournament August 29, 2020
TailTwister – Lion Herb went around the screen and collected donations. Lion Ron donated another dollar for his son’s birthday today and his latest TV show “Press Your Luck”. Lion Al donated used his donation to four bits.
Student Speaker Contest – Lion Ray said the new guidelines for the Student Speaker contest are as follows: District Student Speaker Chairs to send invitation to students still active in the “original” speech contest, regardless of level, (which has been cancelled in its original form) to submit their speeches in written form to the District Student Speaker Chair for judging. (No Later than June 27, 2020).
PM Meeting Review-
Congratulations to the three new Melvin Jones Award recipients – Lion’s Pat Coppe, Jenni Erickson, and Jill Eliason.
Presentation by Destination Home with Ray Bramson – Destination Home has been an organization since 2015 helping to find housing for families in need and keeping families in homes, and creating low income homes for those who need, as well. They act as a convener, funder, and a leader in the fight against those without a home. Destination Homes’s focus is in Santa Clara County. With largely corporate and non-profit support, Destination Home is helping serve 12-13,00 households of 65,000 that are currently in need.
Updating Club By-Laws – Thank you to Lion’s Claire and Al who have worked tirelessly to revise these bylaws. The notice of voting was distributed by email and by regular mail from Lion Leslye. We had a quorum of 25 of 45 members, and needed a majority to adopt. The VOTE was: 24 aye, 0 nay, 1 abstention. Bylaws Accepted.
Special Club Presentations/Announcements –
Milestone Chevron Award for 35 years: Lion Eli!
Milestone Chevron Award for 15 years: Lion Herb Yeary!
Centennial Lions Club Award: for members who have brought in other members who have stayed for 2-3 years. Lion Kent is the recipient of the gold centennial award. Lion Claire received the gold and the diamond centennial.
The Key Award goes to Lion Liang for bringing in at least two people into the club.
Camp Via West – Lion Joan contacted Rick at Camp Via West and talked to him about the Green House. She will follow up and get the particulars about us utilizing it for the camp. Lion Eli suggested that we build a train platform in the lunch room for the kids. Lion Steve thought that was a good idea supported by the Lions donation. Lion Bill said he would talk with Rick to see if that was something they would like to have.
Destination Home – Lion’s Ray , Joan , and Steve talked about our support of the project in the Cupertino area. It was suggested that we go to the City Council to promote the idea and to see if we might get the Cupertino Rotary to join in with us. Lion Ray said he would talk with District Governor Rick Silveria to see if
District MD-4 would be interested in participating in the project also.
Good of the Order – Lion Ray talked about attending the District 4C6 Awards banquet on Sunday June 20, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Hayes Mansion in San Jose. Lion’s. Al and Leslye said they would be interested in attending also.
Lion Al said he had sent the check for the club to attend the District Convention.
He said he had not received the check back yet since the Convention was cancelled due to the Coronavirus.
