Center for Farmworker Families – Dr. Ann Lopez, E.D.
Ann is the executive director of the Center for Farmworker Families. She started the center was she was doing her doctorate in Mexico. A key piece of her work was the NAFTA agreement and the social and biological effects (corn genetics). GMO corn was cross-bred with resistant genetic strains, diluting the diversity of the corn genetics.
The workers make very impoverished salaries and work in conditions akin to slavery, exposed to high concentrations of pesticides.
The center do farm worker reality tours to see conditions and hear stories. They are also partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank. They advocate for farm workers.
