DG Jan Miller – International President this year is Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada from Japan. His slogan is “Dignity, Harmony, and Humanity”. We are 1.4 million members strong with clubs in 210 countries.
Emphasis this year should be on children. DG Miller asked what we are doing this month for children. Lion Al explained how our club is working with a Boy Scout who is trying to setup eyeglass collection stations at optometry shops.
The first Cabinet Meeting of the fiscal year will be this Saturday, August 22nd in Carmel. Opens at 8 am but officially will run from 9 am to 1 pm. Bring clothes, books, non perishables to the cabinet meeting and they will be shipped to the Philippines and other places where they are needed.
Membership – DG Miller wanted to know what we were doing to increase membership. It was explained that we were have a Membership Drive at the Silicon Valley Fall Festival and were bringing the AJ Robinson van. Lions goal is to increase the number of Lions Clubs in California by 27. Last year our district had two new clubs in Gonzales and Downtown San Jose.
Leo Clubs are for High School students. Campus Clubs are for college students.
One of the goals is to have more women in leadership. Currently we have 26% of club members are women.
Student Speaker Contest packets should be ordered now from MD4. If ordered after October 1st there will be a $25 fee. Topic for this year is “Liberty and Justice for All, What does it Mean to You”
CS Sue Szucs – Several 2015-2016 District 4-C6 Directories were sold at $5 each. CS Szucs apologized for errors in printing.
AJ Robinson/Silicon Valley Fall Festival – We will have the AJ Robinson van at Memorial Park from 9 am until 6 pm. The event runs from 10 am until 5 pm. The extra two hours will give us a little extra time to set things up and take them down. We could still use some more volunteers for the third shift…3 pm till 6 pm. Contact Lion Ray if you can help out.
Good of the Order –
Omar’s Dream Run: There will be an organizational meeting at 3 pm on August 30th. Lion Al can’t make it and is looking for someone to fill in for him. The Run will be on Sunday October 11th at Hellyer Park. Cost is $35 and includes a tee shirt. Our club has agreed to help with setup of tables and chairs.
Time to Step Up – We are looking for replacements for those in charge of the Crab Feed and Treasurer. If you are willing please let your intentions be known.
Stop Hunger Now – The event will be on November 14th in San Jose. Same as last year. The date is the same as the second 4C-6 District Cabinet Meeting in Santa Clara.
Correspondence – A letter was received from the Blind Center thanking us for our donation of $1500 for three life memberships.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations Lion Eli.
