Tail Twister – Lion Tail Twister Jim G. heard that Lion Eli (tail twister in his absence) collected a lot of donations so he set out to do the same from everyone. Lion John Smith and several others donated a happy dollar since they missed the visit from Lion Bob Ferber.
Cabinet Meeting Review – Lion Ray Lancon attended the cabinet meeting. Lion Prez Steve reported that the Lion’s Eye Foundation performed about $2.9 million dollars worth of eye surgeries this last year. The Lions Peace Poster contest is in effect and is available to children from the ages of 10 – 13 years old. The District 4C-6 convention is May 18 thru May 22, 2011 in San Ramon, Ca.. Lion Ray also reported that Lion Mort got her flags for the flag day presentations to the elementary school children. It was also mentioned that keeping in touch with Leo’s in college helped in keeping them in the Lions fold after they graduate.
The City of Hope built a new wing to their building complex with the funds provided by the Lion’s Clubs.
Crab Feed Review – Lion Al started out by saying he was waiting for a response from the Rotarians so he could complete the financials and close out the books on the crab feed. He thinks we will clear approximately $18,000 to divide between the DeAnza Lions and the Rotarians. He is trying to finalize both the crab feed and golf financials for the next board meeting.
Speech Contest – Lion Prez Steve stated that the zone contest will be held on March 14, 2011. We need more volunteers as no one from any of the other Lions clubs have volunteered at this time. The contest will be held in Cupertino on
Monday March 14th at 6:30 PM at the Creekside Park Building, 10455 Miller Ave., Cupertino, CA.
Charter Night – Lion Prez Steve stated that we currently have 32 attendees signed up which includes several members from the P.M. group and their children. The cost is $35/person. Please sign up soon and let Lion Prez Steve know what meal you would like for dinner. Lion Prez Steve mentioned Charter night is on March 19, 2011 at the Blue Pheasant Restaurant.
Leo’s Update – Lion Kent and his wife attended the Leo’s fund raiser at Fresh Choice. He noticed that it was not well supported but thought they did a good job.
Good of the Order – Lion Dagi thanked new Lion Walt Strach for the great job he did at the Bingo Night. Lion Dagi also mentioned that she was waiting for invoices for the jackets. Lion Kent then brought up the subject of the possibility of ordering yellow polo shirts with the Lions logo to wear during the summer time as the dark blue ones tend to get hot during the summer months. Lion Al/Dagi will check into the possibility of getting them. Lion Ray Gamma talked about the Elks club crab feed that he attended and how well it was run and the low cost of the crab.
Lion Kent also brought up the idea of donating benches to the city for parks with the Lions emblem on them to promote the Lions club.
Lions Eli and Ray Lancon delivered 2,425 pairs of eye glasses to the blind center in Vallejo. They also delivered 81 ink cartridges.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations – Lion Don Lang won.
Respectfully submitted by: Lion Secretary Ron Ahearn
