Cupertino DeAnza Lions Charities, Inc. Lions Club of DeAnza Corporation A.M. Meeting Minutes 8/26/2010
Lions Present: Lion Prez Steve, Phil, Ray G., Al, Dagi, Jim G., Eli, Herb, Kent, Dan, Yvonne, Bill, Ray L., Charlie & Ron.
Guests/Visitors: None
Tail Twister: Lion Jim G. collected Happy quarters from all Lions present. Lion Prez Steve gave a Happy dollar as he will be leaving for Texas this week to help his son relocate there because of his job.
Dates to remember –
–    Lions Eye Foundation Anniversary Celebration September 11th –    Monterey Lighthouse Lions, BBQ-Fundraiser September 19th – 12:30PM –    Cupertino Fall Festival! A.J. Robinson Community Health Screening, September 25th. –    23rd Annual De Anza Lions Charity Golf Classic, September 25th –    Peace Poster Contestants Of District 4-C6 Ages 11-13yrs by 11/15/10 –    Board Meeting September 14th TBA
AJ Robinson – Lion Prez Steve noted that we had the wrong date for the Cupertino Fall Festival and that it is on the 25th and 26th of September instead of the 18th and 19th. Lion Prez Steve talked with the Cupertino Host Lions President Wayne Nishiura to see if they could man the AJ Robinson van on the 25th since we are having our annual golf tournament that day. The Mountain View Lions club has it scheduled on the 26th. Lion Ray Lancon will talk with Don about a possible refund for the time we are not using it. Lion Kent will discuss the possibility of the Kaiser Group supporting the AJ Robinson van with us by providing volunteer doctors and nurses.
DeAnza Lions Calendar of Events – Lion Kent discussed the Monta Vista Leo’s club and how they are doing. He mentioned that club day at Monta Vista is on Sept. 17 and that we need to support them in what ever way we can which is trying to provide them with community activities they can participate in so they can attract more members. Lion Kent said that their school advisor would help the Leo’s in the various events. We discussed the events coming up and how we could use their support ie; golf tournament, food drive, and the Christmas Parade. Lion Kent mentioned that we need to get this on the community
calendar so that the Leo’s can see what is coming up. Lion Dagi mentioned that she would talk with Lion Carl about getting activities on the calendar.
Community Outreach – Lion Al stated that he provided Lion Kathy with the status of the outreach program. The advisor from Campbell Middle school (Margo) stated that she has processed two of the vouchers and is working on the other three. Margo has sent the two receipts to Lion Ray Lancon. Lion Ray L. said he would tell Margo to contact Lion Al in the future. Lion Al mentioned that he is still working on the one adult that we are supporting and tring to get her signed up for the eye surgery that she needs which will make her employable.
Golf Tournament – Lion Al gave the statistics on the golf tournament to date which is we have thirty golfers signed up at this time. Lion Al said thta he was thinking about setting up 2 accounts in PayPal to support the clubs various activities. Lion Al asked that individuals send him a message if they plan on playing in the golf tournament and they can pay later. Lion Eli and Ron will meet with Barbara at Moffett Field to finalize the BBQ menu and the requirements of NASA and Moffett Field for the golfers information and other items. Lion Prez Steve noted that we have received approximately $7.2 K in donations at this time. Lion Prez Steve said he would pick up the coffee cake and bagels for the tournament. He also stated that we have 28 raffle items and 13 silent auction items at this time. Lion Eli will meet with Lion Leslye Noone on friday to set up the requirements for the pre-tournament party on the 24th at their house at 5:30 P.M. Lion Ray L. needs to start collecting money for the pre-tournament event at Summit Point on September 24th.    The Lion’s group will deliver the tables and chairs required for the pre-tournament dinner to Lion John and Leslye’s home on Wednesday the 22nd. Lion Bill mentioned that the KRTY advertisement about our golf tournament was still incorrect.
Good of the Order – Lion Ray Gamma mentioned the Cupertino Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament that is being played on Sept. 23, 2010 at the Palo Alto Golf and Country Club. The cost is $250 per player.
Lion Yvonne Fimby is looking at setting up the DeAnza Lions installation dinner at Big Dog Vineyards in Milpitas. The venue is wine tasting prior to the dinner with the winery providing the tables and chairs for the event and we would provide the food. There would also be entertainment by the Colony Street Band which plays 60’s, 70’s and 80’s to the present music. If you would like to look at their web site it is: www.colonystreetband.com.
