Board Meeting Review – Lion Al went over the preliminary figures for the annual golf tournament. He only received 41 applications for golfers and we had 88 golfers present. It has been difficult for him to reconcile the golfers. Lion Al thanked Lion Yvonne for all the hard work she put in at the golf tournament and that all the cash boxes were reconciled and they were right on. The preliminary numbers show that we took in approximately $11,500 down about $4,500 dollars less than what was budgeted. At this time we still have a possibility that we will have one major sponsor come through that would put us over budget. Lion Al mentioned that we had 20 unpaid golfers the day of the tournament. Lion Al mentioned that we had more Silver sponsors but less Tee sponsors than last year.
Food Drive – The annual food drive will be on November 21-22, 2010. Lion Ray Lancon said there has been no decision on which Safeway store will be available. Lion Ray stated that due to the economy we will probably have more families in need. Last year we provided food to 130 families. If we decide to do collect food at two stores it was stated that we would need approximately 48 volunteers to staff both stores. Lion Don Lang said that the Odd fellows Hall would be available on Sunday for the Lions Club to use. We might need more trucks to help deliver the food.
Eye Glass Outreach Program – Lion Prez Steve and his wife Ellen along with Lion Kathy stated that we will have one boy and one girl from the Campbell Middle School and one adult going to the Lens Crafters in Westgate that will be getting free eye exams and glasses with no vouchers being used. We also talked with the nurse at the Cupertino elementary school and informed her that a child with broken glasses could go to the Lens Crafters and get the glasses repaired for free.
Crab Feed – The DeAnza Lions club has received the contract from the church for the use of their facilities. There is an issue about parking and the 5:00 mass that needs to be worked out. We are looking into possibly using the schools parking lot for the first seating. We will ask the Leo’s to help us with the crab feed and directing traffic in the parking lot.
Good of the Order – Lion Ray Lancon asked that all Lions please provide him with their old Lions magazines when they are done reading them so they can be distributed to various lobbies to help promote Lionism.
There was a question about how Lion Eli was doing after his surgery. It was stated that he came through it well and everything was fine.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations, Lion Yvonne won.
Respectfully submitted by: Lion Secretary Ron Ahearn
