Tail Twister: Lion Tail Twister Jim started off by fining Lion Charlie for saying he
might not be able to pick his car up from Lion Jim because he was going to play
golf.  He also fined Lion Ray L. for being the ex-president.

Board Mtg. Recap – Lion Al went over the final 2009-2010 budget.  The Club
budget net profit was $1,052.02 positive.  The Community budget net profit was
$2,010.14.
The 2010-2011 Proposed budget was approved as submitted.  The
Administrative budget shows a net income of $43.00.  The Community budget
shows a net income deficit of $1,097.00 so the club needs to work a little harder
to make up for the deficit..  A discussion followed with a motion to accept the
2010-2011 budgets as presented and was accepted.
Golf Update – Lion Eli stated we currently have $1,800 currently pledged.  Lion
Eli stated that he had talked with Lion Kent and that they had between 3 and 5
possible new sponsors they are working on.  Lion Kent is starting to make a big
push on major sponsors.  Lion Ron talked with Lion Yvonne about either a tee
sponsor or major sponsor again this year and she said they would be a $500
sponsor.  Thank you very much Lion Yvonne and Dan Fimby.  Lion Ron has got
one new tee sponsor and is working on two more.  Currently the tee sponsor
committee has eight tee sponsors.  Lion Prez Steve said they had sent out 50%
of the donation requests with good responses.  They will send out the other
donation requests shortly.  Lion Eli stated that Paul and Eddie’s will have at least
one foursome and possibly two.
Lion Eli said he was going to take the DeAnza Lions Sponsor/Golfers information
packages to the Dayton Valley Lions golf tournament with him this week to see if
he can get some more players and/or sponsors.
It was also mentioned that on the KRTY community web page they had left the
“a” off of the “DeAnzaLions.com” URL so anyone tying to get to our webpage
using the web link provided would be able to get to our web site.  Lion Eli sid he
would mention it to Lion Pat Coppe.
Community Outreach – Lion Charlie stated that him and Lion Herb were waiting
for school to start again so they can contact the Campbell Middle school
representative (Margo) to see what the status is of the five coupons that they
were provided and to get things started again.
Good of the Order – Lion Ray G. talked about the Cupertino War Memorial Golf
tournament on August 23, 2010, cost is $250 per person.
Lion Mike Martin mentioned that all of our Lion’s stored crab feed materials are
now out of Lion Jim Gould’s leased garage.  Lion Jim G. did mention that he
does have five tables that need to go into storage.  Lion Jim did say he might
need help at the end of July to move the rest of his left over stuff moved out.
Lion Yvonne talked bout the upcoming American Cancer Society car show
coming up on July 31st and would like to be on next weeks agenda to talk more
about the car show.  She stated that ther would be approximately seventy-five
people the Lions would have to cook for.

Installation Review

Enjoyed by all.  Great food.  Loved the theme.  Is Mike Martin 1st VP, or not?  TBD…

Budget

We netted 2k more than we thought for the year.  The share card has been very productive (nearly 500 dollars)!  Please use it!

We did well at the crab feed, food drive, and golf outing in a bad year.

Final budget will be blessed at the next board meeting.

Web Site Update:

Calendar has been adjusted so you can now look ahead several months ahead (i.e.:  see when you have bingo duty 4 months from now)

MD4 Student Speaker Wins [Again]

Miles Mithous from Campbell won the whole state, and took home another 10k scholarship.  He goes on to Nationals.

Vita Services – Camp Casanova

Bridge was repaired.  It looks / works great. Benches and picnic tables painted.  An impressive effort.

Flag Day @ Hughes

A great event once again. Cooked 150 hotdogs, kids had a great time.

Hope for Haiti Program

To-date, they’ve raised approx 20M dollars.

Lions Charity Golf Classic

3 months away!  We need golfers!  More sponsors needed!  Tee sponsors needed!  We need a total of 144 golfers.

Mike expressed an interest to be the Friday Night golf chair.

Golf Update – Lion Eli stated the next Golf meeting will be 5:30 P.M. before the
P.M. meeting at Round Table Pizza in Santa Clara.  The major topics will be
Raffle prizes, major sponsorship, and tee sponsors.  Lion Steve said that we are
starting to get in donations for gift bag and raffle prizes.
Budget Meetings: Lion Al has completed the 2010 financial reports.  The
increase in the crab feed tickets will help offset the budget deficit. The budget
approval meeting will be in during the August. P.M. meeting.  The final budget
report for 09-10 will be presented at the next board meeting.  Lion Jim G. and
Lion Al talked about the discussions between the DeAnza Lions and the
Rotarians about the split of the crab feed funds.  The Rotarians said they were
willing to take on more responsibility.  Further discussions between the two
groups in the future.
Outreach – Lion Al stated that that five individuals have completed the process
and received their glasses.  There are five more in limbo at the Campbell Middle
school.  Lion Ray L. will try to contact the school sponsor to see where the
process is at.  The DeAnza Lions currently have ten more vouchers available.
Lions Herb and Charlie are currently being trained in the process.
Storage Unit – Lion Eli reported that all the material stored in Lion Jim’s garage
is now at the storage facility.  The only thing left is a few of the tables used for the
installation dinner.  Lion Jim G. and Eli will talk with Kerry/Kathy about what they
want to do withe the Habitat for Humanity BBQ.  The Lion’s barrel BBQ will be
stored at Lion Ray L. house.
Installation Meeting – Past District Governor Marlene did a great job of installing
the new officers including the new 1st VP Mike Martin who was not in attendance
at the time.  Lion Ray L. was praised for his hard work over the last two years.  A
large round of applause followed.
Good of the Order – Lion Ray G. talked about the Korean War Veterans meeting
which had approximately two-hundred attendees.
The DeAnza Lions received a Thank you letter from Via West for our donations to
Via’s adaptive skills, therapeutic recreation, and respite programs.  Attached in
this e-mail is a copy of the letter in PDF format.

Thank You – Lion Prez Ray presented the Larry Ashland Award to Lion Cliff for
his roll in supporting the Student Speaker Contest.  Lion Prez Ray also presented
the Lifetime Blind Center Award to Lion Mike Martin.
Golf Update – Lion Eli stated the next Golf meeting will be 5:30 P.M. prior to the
P.M. meeting at Round Table Pizza in Santa Clara.  Lion Steve said he was
starting to send out requests for raffle prizes.  Lion Eli mentioned that Recology
will be a Silver sponsor.  They also donated a dumpster for the raffle or silent
auction which ever we deem appropriate.  Lion Eli also mentioned the Dayton
Valley golf tournament that is coming up July.  Anyone planning to play in the
Dayton Valley Lions golf tournament on July 17th needs to sign up right away.
Installation and Budget Meetings: The Installation of Officers and the annual
Budget meeting will both be held on June 26th, 2010 at Lion Mort and Eli’s home.
The budget meeting will start at 3:30 with the Installation dinner to start at 5 P.M.
Please bring friends, potential new Lions and your children to the Installation
dinner, all are welcome.  Lion Mort and Eli, thank you again for your hospitality.
Lion Prez Ray stated that past District Governor Marlene will be at the Installation
dinner of the new DeAnza Lions Officers. Lion Al stated that Lion Jeff, Lion Don,
Lion Ray G. and Lion Yvonne had requested new budget items which will be
discussed at the budget meeting.
Outreach – Lion Al stated that Lions Herb and Charlie are in the process of over
seeing the program.  They met with Barbara Knox to learn more of the process.
Lens Crafters is in the process of getting glasses for one of the adults and
provided her with eyedrops to help.  She will get her glasses in approximately
nine days.  That will make 5 people we have completed in this process with 5
more to be done with Campbell Middle School.  A big thank you goes out to Lens
Crafters at Westgate Mall.
Storage Unit – Lion Eli reported that he and Lion’s Ray L., Herb, Charlie, Al, and
Mike Martin moved all the materials from Lion Jim G. shop to the storage facility.
Thank you Lion Jim G. for all the years of storage at your facility.
Good of the Order – Lion Steve said he has started collecting items for the golf
tournament and that the flyer for the golf tournament has been updated by Lion
Carl.  Lion Cliff mentioned the AJ Robinson van will be at the Cupertino Library
on September 18 and 19, 2010 from 8 am to 5 pm.
It was also mentioned that the Lions currently have two different mail rosters that
need to be consolidated and brought up to date.  Lion Steve said he would
discuss this with Lion Carl.
It was stated that Lion Dagi would return from her European tour in mid July to
which everyone cheered.

Tail Twister: Lion Jim fined Lion Ray G. on the good news that he sold his boat,
then Lion kent was fined for not buying Lion Ray’s boat.  Lion John N. donated a
happy dollar because he got his boat working.  Lion Don Lang gave a happy
dollar for the Lions that helped support the Odd Fellows pancake breakfast.

Thank You –  The DeAnza Lions club received a “Thank You” letter from the
Cancer/Lymphoma society for our donation.
Camp Costanoan – Lion Bill gave an update on he work completed at Camp
Costanoan.  The fire circle area was cleaned and then painted.  The foot bridge
supports were taken down and cement footings were put in.  After the supports
dried the bridge was plumbed and new bridge supports were installed and
painted.  The new camp director Chris was very pleased with all the work the
Lions had done.  Thanks to all who participated.
Golf Update – Lion Eli stated that the major sponsor package is being finalized
and will be ready to send out next week.  Lion Steve and Ellen started sending out
requests for raffle items with the first one to South West Airlines.  Lion Kent said
that he had talked with the Leo’s club and they were very excited about helping
out with the charity golf tournament.  The Leo’s will also have a membership
drive in August at the beginning the new school year.

needs to sign up right away.

Middle school to see where they are in the process.  Lions Herb and Charlie are
in the process of over seeing the program.
Good of the Order – Lion Eli reported on the cleanup of our storage facility which
went very well.  Next Tuesday June 22nd we will move the items stored at Lion
Jim Gould’s garage to our storage facility.  We will possibly need to borrow Lion
Mike Martin’s truck for the move.  Lion Herb was fined for making a remark about
the packing of the crab feed materials.  There are several items that need to be
readily accessible for the Fish Market to borrow.
Lion Al mentioned that after 9/11 the Secretary of State imposed a registration
tax of $50 on charity organizations and that he will pay the registration fee and
any penalties that are associated with registering late.

Tail Twister: Lion Jim fined Lion Prez Ray for graduating from NYU and his
favorite college team is USC.  Lion Cliff donated a happy dollar since he
graduated from NYU also.  Lion Ray G. donated a happy dollar for the 49er
stadium initiative passing on the Santa Clara ballot.

Website Meeting – Lion Al stated there was still an issue with IE 8 but you can
go to the District web site and click on DeAnza Lions and it will take you there.
Lion Steve said he would send out the URL for the website.  The URL for our web
site that will allow those with Explorer 8 to get into the For Members section is as

Lion Al will put out a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the website
committee.
Board Meeting – Lion John Smith reported on his and Lion Jim Gould’s meeting
with the Sunrise Rotary club concerning the participation and division of the
funds for the crab feed.  The Rotarians were concerned this was more about the
Lions trying to get the Rotarians out of the crab feed charity fund raiser.  Lion’s
John and Jim reassured them that it was not the case.  Lion Jim stated that it
was more about cohesion not competition.  Lion Al and Steve will send crab feed
information to Lion John so he can have it for future meetings with the Rotarians.
Lion Cliff stated that he would be available to help/review with any negotiations.
The next Crab feed is tentatively set for January 22nd, 2011.  Lion Prez Ray will
confirm the date.
Flag Day at Hughes Elementary – Lion Eli reported that Lion Cliff and Lion Mort
gave excellent presentations to the second graders.  After the presentations the
second graders enjoyed BBQ’ed hot dogs provided by the DeAnza Lions.  The
Lions served approximately 200 hot dogs, chips, and lemonade to the kids.
Hughes Elementary wanted to thank the DeAnza Lions for the great day,
Camp Costanoan – Lion Bill Reed reported that the fire circle was completed
and that the repair on the foot bridge was is progress and thought it would be
completed on Friday.
Installation and Budget: The Installation of Officers and the annual Budget
meeting will both be held on June 26th, 2010 at Lion Mort and Eli’s home.  Thank
you very much for your hospitality.
Outreach – Lion Al stated that we are in a learning curve with the eye exam and

Lion Ray Gamma mentioned that the “Diade Portugal” celebration will be this
Saturday June 12, 2010 at Kelly Park in San Jose.

P.M. Meeting Recap. – Dr. Byakod from India was in attendance.  Lion John S.
asked for additional volunteers for Bingo night, Lion Jenni and Lion Yvonne both
volunteered.  It was brought up that we needed someone to take over the
responsibility of keeping track and counting the eyeglasses we collect.  Lion Jill
volunteered.
Installation and Budget: The Installation of Officers and the annual Budget
meeting will both be held on June 26th, 2010.
Camp Costanoan – Lion Bill Reed went over the schedule for the work the Lions
were going to do.  June 3-5 Work on fire circle and paint benches.  June 7th thru
the 12th work on repairing bridge.
Soap Box Derby – Khalil won the Soap Box Derby and will be going to Akron for
the “Nationals”.  The Lions club will provide support for him and his father.
2010 Golf Tournament – Lion Eli said things were going well but said what we
need are golfers.  He also mentioned that we were having BBQ Ribs instead of
Chicken.  Recology will be a Silver sponsor this year.  Lion Pat Coppe donated a
pair of 49ers tickets for the golf raffle.
Leo’s – The Leo’s group had their last meeting of the school year.
Outreach – Lion Al said 2 students were done and received their glasses.
Five students from Cherry Lane middle school are in the process.  We currently
have 2 adults set up for exams.  Transportation from Santa Clara to Westgate
was provided.

Flag Day – Lion Eli asked for more volunteers for flag day on June 7th at Hughes
Elementary.  The Lions will be serving approximately 200 hot dogs.  BBQ
volunteers need to be there at 10:30 A.M.
Lion’s Storage Locker: The Lions group needs to reduce the materials that are
currently stored in the storage locker.  Lion Jim G. is letting his shop go and
needs to move the Lions materials stored there to the storage locker.  The Lions
group needs to talk with the Sunrise Rotary club to see if they have any room to
help store some of the Crab feed materials.  The Lions group currently spends
about $900 a year for our storage locker.
2010 Golf Tournament – Lion Mort mentioned that a member of the Rotarians
has offered to donate the goody bags for the golf tournament.  The next golf
tournament meeting is June 2nd, prior to the P.M. monthly meeting.  The focus of
the meeting will be on the golf activities.
Soap Box Derby – Lion Steve mentioned that Kalil took 1st place in the Soap
Box Derby on May 22nd so he will be going to Akron for the National Soap Box
Derby in July.  Lion Steve said the car that he won in will be retired.  There will be
discussions on how we can help getting Kalil and his father to Akron for the
finals.
Leo’s Club – Lion Kent met with the Leo’s group this week.  He is looking into
activities for them to help out with this summer.  Lion Al received a signed copy of
the Leo’s Constitution.
Crabfeed – Lion Jim mentioned that the date we are looking at for the annual
crabfeed is January 22, 2011.  Lion Prez Ray said he will check with the church
to see if that date is available.  This date will be mentioned at the P.M. meeting to
see if there are any issues or conflicts with it.
Outreach – Two of the children got their eyes checked and one has received
their glasses and the other will be getting their’s in 5-10 days.  There are
currently 5 more children in process and 2 adults.  It was also stated that a
national survey stated that 1 out of 4 school aged children have vision problems.
It was also stated that Lions Herb and Charlie will sub-chair this committee.
DeAnza Lions Website – The website committee along with Lion Dagi are
looking for pictures to go along with the outreach programs that we have listed on
the website.  Lion Al questioned wether we need to continue “Golden Gate .com”
domain site and said we will bring the subject up at the P.M. meeting.
District 4-C6 – Installation of District 4-C6 Officers will be July 17th at the Santa
Cruz Elks Lodge.  The dinner is $39 per person.  Cocktails are at 6:00 P.M. with
dinner at 7:00 P.M.

Guests/Visitors: Sharon Snow – Talked about the Cupertino “Relay for Life” at
10 A.M. July 17, 2010 at Cupertino DeAnza College.
Tail Twister: Lion Jim remembered it was Lion Eli’s birthday and had him roll the
dice to which he rolled a seven so everyone had to pay into the tail-twisters fund.
Lion Steve gave a happy dollar for the birth of his and Ellen’s new grandson.
Thank You’s: The Cupertino DeAnza Lions Club received a Thank You letter
from the YWCA and the Battered Women’s group for our support.  The DeAnza
Lions also received a Thank You letter from Book’s Aloud for our donation to their
group.
Installation and Budget: The Installation of Officers and the annual Budget
meeting will both be held on June 26th, 2010.  The Budget meeting will start at
3:30 P.M. with the installation BBQ at 5:00 P.M.
2010 Golf Tournament – Next Golf meeting June 2nd at Round Table Pizza.
Leo’s Club – Lion Kent reported that the Leo’s did not have a meeting this week.
Lion Al said he had received their roster and charter.
Outreach – Two children from Anderson school had their eye exams and are
waiting on their glasses.  There are five children from Campbell Middle school
and one disadvantaged adult awaiting their exams.  The DeAnza Lions have
ordered ten more vouchers.
Lion Yvonne talked about the American Cancer Society’s “Cancer Awareness Car
Show” on July 31, 2010 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.  This is the 4th year for this event.
Last year they had 62 cars and are hoping for 75 this year.  Lion Yvonne was
hoping that the DeAnza Lions were going to support the event this year by
serving Tri-Tip sandwich’s as we did last year.  She was told that we would
provide that support.
Lion Yvonne and Lion Dan Fimby have been nominated for the
“Innovation Award“ by the American Cancer Society.  You both deserve it for all
your hard work and enthusiasm.
The DeAnza Lions have not received dates for the volunteer work at Via West
formally Camp Costanoan as of yet.
The Fish Market fund raiser for Sergio’s wife went very well.  It was estimated
that there was approximately 160 individuals that attended.  The Lion raised
about $600 for a good cause.
Lion Cliff gave Lion John a couple of knitted Afghan blankets for his wife’s project
Linus.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations, Lion Eli won on his birthday.  (Better
buy a Lotto ticket Eli.)
