Tail Twister Carl: Happy dollars for…Giants (and…the Yankees), Charlie is fined for going to a meeting on Monday, when nobody was there, Jeff gave many happy dollars for the meeting for Susan and healthy pregnancy, friends who just had a baby, Giants, and more, happy dollar from Eli for the support for the golf tourney, Mike for not needing a cast.
Golf Tourney Recap: opportunity to give feedback on the survey link he sent out and will eventually send out a spreadsheet showing some of the info, beer tent got a full 5, high 4s for registration and awards ceremony. Next year same place, September 24th. Other highlights from Eli-great tournament from beginning to end, Friday golf and party at the Noone’s included. We had more sponsors than we ever had, even though it was less money, still great to have the participation. Eli thanks all because almost all the Lions were involved, and many people helped who were not Lions. The Leos that were there did a great job.
Leos Update: Leo Club is really growing and cementing this year, induction for new members on October 23rd, place TBA. Ray L. is looking for someone to go to the meeting on Friday at MV High, room 109 at 12:30.
India Eye Camp: we will be supporting the eye camp in Provin’s father-in-law’s home district and we will be supporting the opening of the girl’s school.
New Location for PM meeting? We’re on a journey for a new place-stay tuned…Carl will take the old address off of the website.
Tidbits and Reminders:
    Food Drive coming up on November 20 and 21, location is not yet confirmed, the Bernardo store that we were planning on using may not work because of a manager change and lack of freezer. Anyone who has any good ideas about these problems please chime in…soon. Jim suggested a refrigerated truck for the weekend? Could cost a couple hundred dollars to rent one…
    John Smith said he would take over the Speaker Contest since we have lost our friend, Lion Cliff. Raffle organized by Ellen for a Gift Certificate to Ruffled Feathers: and the winner is….Yvonne,

Visitor – Lion Robert from the Super Almaden Lions Club spoke about the Eric Drew Foundation Trek for Treatments Trail Walk and Family Festival on Sunday October 3, 2010 at the Oak Meadow Park in Los Gatos. He asked for support and participation from the group.
Tail Twister: Lion Jim G. went around and collected from Lion Herb for his 0-4 49ers. Lion Eli donated a happy dollar for the successful golf tournament and thanked everyone for their help. Lion Jim G. gave Lion Treasure Al the $25.25 they made in tips from the beer tent at the golf tournament and asked that it be put in Tail Twister fund raiser budget and Lion Al respectfully said NO.

Golf Update – Lion Eli stated that the golf tournament went well and thanked Lion Ray Lancon for setting up the Pre-golf tournament on Friday at Summit Point. He also thanked Lion John and Leslye Noone for hosting the party after the pre-golf tournament. Lion Prez Steve noted that we took in approximately $510 in Raffle money and $1240 in thew Silent auction. Lion Prez Steve and Eli thanked Lion Kent for the help provided by the Leo’s group. They also did an excellent job in selling additional raffle tickets. Lion Al mentioned that he received a $275 dollar check from Whole Foods which was unexpected. There will be a golf review meeting on October 6, at the Pizza Party restaurant prior to the P.M. meeting. Lion Jim G. mentioned that Simone Sherwood said the registration at the golf tournament was the best that it had ever been.
Leo’s – Lion Kent stated that it appears at this time that the Leo’s have approximately 20-25 members and they are in the process of getting organized. The Lion’s need to set up an induction ceremony for the Leo’s and their officers. Lion Ray L. will attend their meeting to get things going.
Good of the Order – Lion Al stated that the adult(Maria) we are sponsoring for eye surgery has an appointment with the Lion Eye Foundation on December 30th for a final exam prior to surgery.
It was mentioned that the Crab Feed is scheduled for the 22nd of January 2011 and we are waiting for the contract from the church. The price we believe will be around $1450. There was also discussion about an issue about parking relating to the 5:00 PM mass. This will be followed up on during discussions with the church.
The annual food drive will be on November 21-22 and Lion Ray Lancon will check with Safeway concerning the store at Bernardo and El Camino. It was also brought up to Lion Kent that we could use help from the Leo’s club. Lion Prez Steve said he would check with Lion Don Lang about using the Odd Fellows Hall.

Tail Twister: Lion Jim G. went around and collected a little bit from all attendees to stay on budget. Lion Jim G. also fined Lion Herb for various snide comments made in jest. Lion Ray Gamma donated saying that he worked at the Santa Clara Arts and Wine Festival over the weekend. Lion Prez Steve donated a dollar because he got his grandson an engineers out fit.

Golf Update – Lion Al gave Lion Yvonne a copy of the various participant lists for the Moffett Field Golf tournament and the cash boxes for the various golf events. Lion Al said we currently have 88 golfers signed up to play. Lion Eli gave Lion Jim G. the receipt for the Firehouse Grill and Brewery and gave Lion Bill the maps to hand out at the gate on how to get to the Moffett Field Golf course. Lion Steve mentioned that there was goody bag stuffing party at his house at 6:00 P.M. and that raffle prizes, speaker system will need to be loaded into Lion Mike Martins truck. Lion Ray Lancon talked about the Pre-tournament golf at Summit Point on Friday (currently 22 players) with the party at Lion John and Leslye Noone’s home starting at 5:30 P.M. A group of Lions went to John and Leslye’s home on Wednesday and prepared it for the party. Lion Eli would like all Lion’s involved in the golf tournament at Moffett Field between 8:00 and 8:30 A.M. for set up. Lion Ray Gamma requested a tent for his photo taking and Lion Jim G. and Lion Dan Fimby will set up the Firehouse Grill and Brewery tent for the free beer. Lion Eli said to remember that we will need help cleaning up after the golf tournament.
Good of the Order – Lion Eli mentioned that the city of Sunnyvale was having a October Fest Street fair on October 2nd and 3rd from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and we should try to support the Firehouse Grill and Brewery who will participate in the fair.
Lion Ray L. also mentioned that the Cupertino Host Lions club was going to provide support to the A.J. Robinson van on Sept. 25th at the Cupertino Fall Festival since we were supporting our annual charity golf tournament the same day.
Lion Al mentioned that the lady we are helping to get an eye operation has had her final exam and the results were sent to the Lions Eye Foundation for final approval. If they give their final approval she will have a cornea transplant.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations, Lion Eli won again. I guess it is his just reward for all the hard work he has done on the golf tournament.

Board Meeting Review – Lion Al said it was a great meeting. He stated the the club was financially solvent. There was a discussion about setting up a bank account for club members to pay club dues using PayPal. Lion Al said he looked into setting up this account but is is a little more difficult than was expected and did not know if it was worth the effort. There was a discussion concerning the P.M. meeting spot and it was decided that the P.M. meeting would be at the Pizza Party pizzeria again in October. There are issues about not being able to be heard because of the sound levels in the restaurant so we are still looking around for a better place. Lion Prez. Steve and Jeff to discuss another venue in Campbell.
Golf Update – Lion Eli said that we need to be aware of the meeting tonight (9/16/10) of the registration committee at Lion Leslye’s home. We currently have the Leo’s scheduled for several tasks. Lion Kent mentioned that we can use the Leo’s as much as we want be we don’t know exactly how many we will have until Monday Sept. 20th. The Leo’s are hoping to have approximately 52 members after the membership drive. Lion Eli stated that he believes the new banner will cost less than $100 and thanked Lion Kent for the way that he set the banner up last year because it is saving us money this year. Lion Eli also stated that he thought that we should add the Fish Market as a sponsor to our banner. There was no objection to that. Lion Kent said he thought that Kaiser might be a
$5,000 sponsor. The request went from the local group to corporate for final approval.
Lion Al stated that he needs the names of all the golfers, volunteers, and attendees so that he can get them on the Security Gate list. All he needs is there full name as it appears on their photo ID.
Lion Eli stated that a group of Lions will go to storage on Wednesday and get the tables, chairs, and other items necessary to take over to Lion John and Leslye’s home for the pre-tournament party on Thursday night. We need a count of attendees that are planning on going to the party so Lion Leslye can plan accordingly.
Lion Ray Lancon mentioned that we currently have 18 golfers (maybe 20) set up for the Friday pre-tournament at Summit Point. He needs money from those who have not paid yet as he has paid for everyone already.
Good of the Order – Lion John Smith stated that he would be out of town on business and would not be able to help out at the golf tournament. He did say that he would discuss taking on the Lion’s Speaker contest with his wife Carmel.
News update: I just received an email from Lion John Smith saying that he and
his wife Carmel would be happy to take on this project on for 2011. Thank you so much for taking on this task, it is greatly appreciated by the Cupertino DeAnza Lions Club.

A.J. Robinson – Lion Al said that we paid for the van for two days and that it is now in the hands of the Cupertino Lions Host club. We have not heard anything from Cupertino Lions Host President Wayne as of yet on how they were going to support it since it is the same day as our golf tournament.
Leo’s Update – Lion Kent mentioned that the Leo’s membership drive at Monta Vista was on September, 9th and we were able to get them the Lion’s banner for their recruiting booth. Lion Kent also provided them with flyers for the golf tournament to hopefully get more golfers.
One Sight – Lion Al discussed the possibility of a cornea implant operation for Maria and that she does qualify. She will get a final eye exam and provide the results to the Lions Eye Foundation for final approval of the surgery which would be the last step before the surgery. We had two more students from Campbell Middle school that received their eye exams and are getting glasses. This means that we have three out of five students completed from Campbell Middle school. There was a discussion about letters of appreciation from the students/ people that we help so that we can put them on our website for our sponsors to see.    Lion Steve said that he would talk to Lion Kathy on Saturday about getting
thank you letters from the students. Lion Kent mentioned that we might want to send follow up letters to the counselors to help in getting thank you letters to show our major sponsors about our community involvement. Lion Kent said he would get the information required and talk with or provide Lion Kathy with that information. Lion Al said that we currently have ten eye exam vouchers left.
Golf Tournament – Lion Eli mentioned that we currently have approximately fifty golfers committed and are trying to get more. Lion Eli and Lion Prez Steve will get together and discuss the audio speaker placement for the tournament. Lion Jim Gould said he is working on getting more golfers and he also volunteered to work at the beer tent provided by the FireHouse Grill and Brewery. Lion Eli mentioned that we need preliminary numbers of golfers and volunteers so he can provide the restaurant with that information. Lion Eli and Lion Kent will contact the Silver Sponsors for names of golfers participating in the tournament. Lion Kent will also work with his committee to follow up on other potential major sponsors. Lion Prez Steve said that we currently have more that enough prizes for the raffle and auction. We also need volunteers to sell raffle tickets and it was brought that maybe the Leo’s could help us in this endeavor.
Good of the Order – Lion Eli also talked with the owners of the Pizza Party pizzeria and they said they would they would work with us in setting up the tables in any fashion we wanted for the P.M. meetings. Discussions will continue.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations, Lion Herb won. I think that there is a conspiracy going on between Lion Herb and Lion Eli since they seem to be winning all the opportunity drawings lately.

P.M. Meeting Review – Everyone who attended the P.M. meeting discussed the likes and dislikes about the new meeting place. Discussed possible other venues and improvements to the new place.
Leo’s Update – Lion Kent mentioned that the Leo’s membership drive at Monta Vista was on September, 9th and would like to get the Lion’s banner and other material to help support their membership drive. Lion Kent also mentioned that the Leo’s will do whatever they can to help us in the golf tournament depending on the number of Leo members they have at that time. Lion Kent also mentioned that the Leo’s attended the golf tournament and P.M. meeting.

Golf Tournament – Lion Kent mentioned that the new website is helping tremendously in getting new major sponsors. Lion Kent then mentioned that the Palo Alto Medical Foundation approved raising their level of sponsorship for the coming year to $1000. There was a discussion about how to deal with major sponsors that give large donations as gifts in kind (i.e. $500 of gift cards) and how to treat them. This was discussed and tabled for further discussion later and that maybe we need a gift in kind policy for major sponsors. Lion Eli brought up that Lion Howie volunteered to take over the tournament scoring and that he would need help and asked for volunteers. Lion Eli also mentioned that the FireHouse Grill and Brewery were going to donate at least one keg of beer and that we would need to provide the man power to pour the beer at the designated location. The Pre-tournament golf outing will be at Summit Point and Lion Ray L. will need the number of golfers and payment so he can work out the details with Summit Point golf course. The pre-tournament golf party and Lion Leslye and Jon Noone’s house will be at 5:30 P.M.. A signup sheet was passed around asking for volunteers for various duties during the party and the hearty appetizers, salads, and desserts they want to bring. It was also discussed what materials and tables were needed at the Noone’s house for the party. Lion Al stated that we need to get the master list of golfers for the Moffett Field front gate completed by 9/22/2010.

Tail Twister: Lion Jim G. collected Happy quarters from all Lions present. Lion Prez Steve gave a Happy dollar as he will be leaving for Texas this week to help his son relocate there because of his job.

AJ Robinson – Lion Prez Steve noted that we had the wrong date for the Cupertino Fall Festival and that it is on the 25th and 26th of September instead of the 18th and 19th. Lion Prez Steve talked with the Cupertino Host Lions President Wayne Nishiura to see if they could man the AJ Robinson van on the 25th since we are having our annual golf tournament that day. The Mountain View Lions club has it scheduled on the 26th. Lion Ray Lancon will talk with Don about a possible refund for the time we are not using it. Lion Kent will discuss the possibility of the Kaiser Group supporting the AJ Robinson van with us by providing volunteer doctors and nurses.
DeAnza Lions Calendar of Events – Lion Kent discussed the Monta Vista Leo’s club and how they are doing. He mentioned that club day at Monta Vista is on Sept. 17 and that we need to support them in what ever way we can which is trying to provide them with community activities they can participate in so they can attract more members. Lion Kent said that their school advisor would help the Leo’s in the various events. We discussed the events coming up and how we could use their support ie; golf tournament, food drive, and the Christmas Parade. Lion Kent mentioned that we need to get this on the community
calendar so that the Leo’s can see what is coming up. Lion Dagi mentioned that she would talk with Lion Carl about getting activities on the calendar.
Community Outreach – Lion Al stated that he provided Lion Kathy with the status of the outreach program. The advisor from Campbell Middle school (Margo) stated that she has processed two of the vouchers and is working on the other three. Margo has sent the two receipts to Lion Ray Lancon. Lion Ray L. said he would tell Margo to contact Lion Al in the future. Lion Al mentioned that he is still working on the one adult that we are supporting and tring to get her signed up for the eye surgery that she needs which will make her employable.
Golf Tournament – Lion Al gave the statistics on the golf tournament to date which is we have thirty golfers signed up at this time. Lion Al said thta he was thinking about setting up 2 accounts in PayPal to support the clubs various activities. Lion Al asked that individuals send him a message if they plan on playing in the golf tournament and they can pay later. Lion Eli and Ron will meet with Barbara at Moffett Field to finalize the BBQ menu and the requirements of NASA and Moffett Field for the golfers information and other items. Lion Prez Steve noted that we have received approximately $7.2 K in donations at this time. Lion Prez Steve said he would pick up the coffee cake and bagels for the tournament. He also stated that we have 28 raffle items and 13 silent auction items at this time. Lion Eli will meet with Lion Leslye Noone on friday to set up the requirements for the pre-tournament party on the 24th at their house at 5:30 P.M. Lion Ray L. needs to start collecting money for the pre-tournament event at Summit Point on September 24th.    The Lion’s group will deliver the tables and chairs required for the pre-tournament dinner to Lion John and Leslye’s home on Wednesday the 22nd. Lion Bill mentioned that the KRTY advertisement about our golf tournament was still incorrect.
Good of the Order – Lion Ray Gamma mentioned the Cupertino Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament that is being played on Sept. 23, 2010 at the Palo Alto Golf and Country Club. The cost is $250 per player.
Lion Yvonne Fimby is looking at setting up the DeAnza Lions installation dinner at Big Dog Vineyards in Milpitas. The venue is wine tasting prior to the dinner with the winery providing the tables and chairs for the event and we would provide the food. There would also be entertainment by the Colony Street Band which plays 60’s, 70’s and 80’s to the present music. If you would like to look at their web site it is: www.colonystreetband.com. A.M. Meeting Minutes 7/22/2010
Lions Present: Lion Prez Steve, Ron, Phil, Don, Ray G., Al, Dagi, Jim, Eli, Herb,

Tail Twister: Since the meeting was started a couple of seconds early Lion Tail
Twister Jim started off by fining everyone.  Lion Mike Martin gave a happy dollar
for getting his new truck.  Congratulations Mike.

ACS Car Show – Lion Jim started by going over his list of to do’s for the ACS car
show.  Lion Don Lang will pick up the BBQ barrel form Lion Ray L. house
although there was a discussion that Lion Charlie and other Lions might pick it up
since they were going in that direction.  Lion Jim will make a list of items and
email it to Lion Prez Steve who will make a Costco run.  Lion Ray G. will bring
the ice and ice chests.  Lion Jim stated the ACS had several great prizes to raffle
away.  We all need to be there at 8:30 A.M.
District Officer Installation – Lion Ray L. said the turn out for the installation
dinner in Santa Cruz was great.  They all had a great time and discussions on
many topics were done.  There was a new District 4-C6 2010-20111 directory
passed out.  The new District Governor Ray Maglalang will be at our next
meeting on July 29, 2010.
District Cabinet Meeting – The Lions Eye Foundation gave a presentation
stating that they had received over 160 referrals this year and performed 60
surgeries.  September 11, 2010 will be their 50th Anniversary.  They had
mentioned their new website where clubs could see the new/revised rules for
club visitation.  The District 4-C6 golf tournament will be held on September 24th,
2010 in Monterey.   The cost is $49.  There was also a discussion on how to get
new members in the district clubs.
Community Outreach – Lion Herb stated that when anything happened he
would let us know.  Lion Ray said he had talked to the Lions Eye Foundation in
San Francisco and found out new information about eye surgery for the lady we
are trying to help.  It looks like she is eligible for it.  She also has a twelve year
old son that needs an eye exam and glasses.  As of yet we have not been able to
make contact with Margo from the Campbell Middle school about the five kids
that we want to help with eye exams and glasses.
Golf Tournament – Lion Eli stated that things were going well with the next
meeting scheduled for August 4, 2010 at 5:30 P.M. prior to the P.M. meeting at
the Round Table pizza on Stevens Creek in Santa Clara.  Lion Eli stated that he
had talked with the proprietor of Paul and Eddie’s Bar and Grill and they were
going to be at least a bronze sponsor and possibly have a couple of foursomes in
the golf tournament.  Lion Prez Steve will get with Lion John N. about how we
can get a graphic or pdf file of our golf tournament to be put on the District
website.  Lion Ray has between 16-24 spots available for the pre tournament golf
outing ($49) at Summit Point at 10:30 A.M on September 24th.  There will be the
pre-golf tournament golf party at Lion John and Leslye Noones house starting at
5:30 P. M. on September 24th.  Lion Ray will try and talk to the Cupertino Courier
about putting in a spot about our tournament.
Lion Eli talked about the Dayton Valley Lions golf tournament in Carson City,
Nevada.  It was well represented by the DeAnza Lions group and friends.  Thank
you all.  Oh and by the way the Pub Crawl was great.
Good of the Order – Lion Prez Steve and his wife Ellen along with Lions Eli and
Mort went and had lunch at Ruffled Feathers in downtown San Jose.  This is the
new restaurant opened by past DeAnza Lions Secretary Kerry Edmonds.  They
said the food was great and reasonable and she will also give a 10% discount to
Lions club members.  She is also donating some food for the golf tournament
and a discount coupon for her restaurant for the goody bag.  Thank you Kerry.
Lion Kent has been instrumental in getting Apple Corp. to agree to being a Silver
Sponsor of the DeAnza Lions Club.  Thanks for all the hard work and
perseverance Kent. Lion Ray G. talked about the great work the USO is doing
and their new facility at the new terminal at Mineta San Jose airport.  He also
talked about the veterans Alzheimer’s group out at the veterans facility at Great
Oaks in South San Jose.
Lion Jim Gould will be finalizing his move out of his old shop into his new digs.
He might need some help if any Lions are available just let him know.

Golf Update – There were only 4 Lions in attendance.  Lion Prez Steve discussed
the raffle and auction items and showed the Pat Coppe label for the water bottle.
Lion Steve talked with Lion Ron, Ray, and Charlie about the tee sponsors and
marketing efforts. As the P.M. group arrived Lion Prez Steve emphasized the
need for golfers.  Lion Prez Steve said that he did a mass mailing of the golf form
to 296 golfers that took approximately 2.5 hours.  Donations are doing better at
this time versus last year at this time. We have received 144 free pizza coupons
for the goody bag from Willow Street Pizza.  We have also received a donation of
3 Black and White portraits worth approximately $750.  We currently have about
$1800 in Sponsor fees and $700 in Tee sponsors.
Recap of P.M. Meeting – Attendance was sparse with only ten members in
attendance but it was kept lively and the Ludlum’s were the number one family in
attendance. Congratulations.  Lion Mike Ringer talked about individual donations
and the possibility of the companies that the individuals work for will match their
donations.  If this is promoted we could double our contributions from the
individuals.  Lion Jeff said he would follow up on this.
Budget Meeting – There will be a Budget meeting to go over the final numbers of
the proposed 2010-2011 budget on Tuesday July 13, 2010 at Lion Prez Steve’s
house starting at 7:30 P.M..  We have currently received $497.16 from the
SaveMart save card that will go towards the new endowment fund.
Outreach – Lion Charlie stated that him and Lion Herb were waiting for school to
start again so we can contact the Campbell Middle school representative (Margo)
to see what the status is of the 5 coupons that they were provided.
Good of the Order – Lion Dagi talked about her trip to Italy and the Lion
Installation ceremony that she attended in Luca Italy.  She said it was a gala
affair with a Cardinal from Peru in attendance.  The Lions club has 140 members
and they meet once a month.  The ceremony was a late lunch with everyone in
attendance dressed to the nine.  They played 5 different national anthems for the
various countries the attendees were from.  Lion Dagi presented the local Lions
club with our friendship banner.  Lion Dagi and her story will be in the District
newsletter.  Congratulations Lion Dagi and thank you for representing the
DeAnza Lions in this affair.
The DeAnza Lions received another Thank you letter from Via West for our hard
work and donation of materials to the camp along with our continued support.
Lion Bill also received a letter from the Wounded Warrior Project thanking the
DeAnza Lions for their generous donation to the project.  Attached in this e-mail
is a copy of the letter in PDF format.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations, Lion Prez Steve won the opportunity
drawing and donated all of it to the Club.  Thank you Lion Prez Steve.
