Tail Twister

–       Tail Twister Lion Herb went around the room collecting Happy Dollars. It was Lion

John S birthday. He rolled a seven and everyone gave a Happy Dollar on his behalf.

Guest Speakers: Sue Chen and Bobby Toda

–       Spoke on behalf of Friends of the Boy Scouts Program

–       Serve Santa Clara and Monterey Bay Areas

–       13,000 youth

–       Not funded by United Way.

–       Asking for help from the community.

–       They are sponsoring a fundraising community breakfast at the end of the month.

–       We will discuss at our Board Meeting this Wednesday and get back to them.

Crab Feed Update: Lion Al

–       Paypal problem. Some of the attendees are not recognizing charge on their bills.

–       Problem with chargeback.

–       Committee will meet with our Board and Rotarians.

–       See Lion Al if you are interested in attending.

Charter Night Update: Lion Steve

–       46^th Anniversary of our lodge will be on March 28^th at the Blue Pheasant

–       Let Lion Steve know if you are interested in coming and what you would like to eat.

–       35 people have signed up including 8 children.

Potential Fundraiser Updates: Lion Walt

–       Need to know how many people interested in participating as Election Couriers

–       General Election on June 2^nd.

–       Each team (driver & navigator) will receive $100 plus gas allowance plus $10 training allowance.

–       Need to have a count of interested people by March 15^th.

Good of the Order

–       Golf Tournament is June 13^th at Moffett Field. Lion John N has listed it on website. We are considering having professional Tee Signs made. Sports Basement has donated some coupons.

–       Student Speaker Contest was last Monday, March 9^th at Los Gatos Lodge. Sophomore from Cupertino High School won. Our contestant, Grace Zhou did well. We invited her to a future PM meeting.

–       Flag Day at Sutter School last Wednesday, March 11^th. There were 56 students from two 3^rd grade classes. Lions Mort, Ann and Walt participated.

Tail Twister

–       Many Happy Dollars were given for the return of Lions Dagi, Mort, and Eli. Lion John S donated for the quick sale of his home. We will miss John and wife Carmel when they leave. Both have contributed much time and effort to our club activities over many, many years.

Crab Feed Review

–       There was a post mortem meeting on the crab feed last Tuesday. Lion Jim will go to Fish Market and talk to Dwight about why the cost of food was twice what we paid for last year. Our net, $6,600 translates to only 33% profit from gross revenue. Lion Eli suggested we consider having a Corn Beef and Cabbage dinner instead next year.

Fundraiser Opportunity

–       Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters in teaming up with District 4C6 to provide couriers for the General Election coming up on Tuesday June 2^nd.

–       Couriers are needed to bring ballots from the election booths to election headquarters in San Jose.

–       County will pay $100 for each team (driver and navigator) plus mileage.

–       400 evening teams and 100 daytime teams needed.

–       Additional payment of $10 per person will be provided to attend the one-hour training.

–       Let Lion Walt know if you are interested. He will need to contact Lion Jeanine Healy by March 15^th and let her know how many people we will be sending.

Golf Tournament

–       Lion Steve has been sending out donation requests.

–       He has already received 4 certificates from Hooters.

–       Entry forms for the tournament available from Lion Steve.

Charter Night

–       46^th Anniversary of our lodge will be on March 28^th at Blue Pheasant.

–       Lion Al will send out flier.

–       Make sure to email Lion Steve and let him know if you are coming and what you would like to eat.

Good of the Order

–       Our club has received a generous donation from Maureen Kennedy in honor of Eli and Mort’s 50^th Wedding Anniversary. We will send them a Thank You Note.

–       Our Student Speaker Club contest winner, Grace Zhou will be honored at the next PM meeting on March 4^th.  Please come and show her what Cupertino DeAnza Lionism is all about. She will be representing us at the Zone Speaker Contest on March 9^th, 7 pm, Los Gatos Lodge.

–       Project Linus is coming up next Thursday, March 5^th, at the Odd Fellows Hall. Please come, and bring a pair of SHARP scissors if you have them.

–       A Flag Day event has been scheduled for March 11^th, 1:30 pm at Sutter School. Please let Lion Mort know if you are interested in helping.

–       Congratulations to Lion Dagi on winning the Opportunity Drawing.

Members present: Lion Pres Jeff, Lions Bernie, Vijay, Bill, Al, Ray, Walt, and Pete.

NOTE: Next months meeting has been changed to Wednesday, Mar 18^th.

Financial Review: Crab Feed

–       Bill for food from Fish Market was double that of last year.

–       Net was only $6,602.79 or approximately 30% net for our efforts.

–       May need to find another provider. We paid $13.50 per lb for fresh crab. It was very good. Cupertino Rotary paid $5.75 lb, not as good but more profitable.

–       There will be a post mortem on crab feed then we will need to discuss costs with Fish Market.

Activities Review

–       Student Speaker contest very successful. Thanks to all who helped.

• Winner was Grace Zhou a freshman from Monta Vista High School.
• She has accepted our invitation to come to next PM meeting on Mar 4^th.
• Zone competition Mar 9^th, 7 pm at Los Gatos Lodge 50 Saratoga Ave, Los Gatos.
• Lion Don has offered use of Odd Fellows Hall as venue next year.

–       Charter Night

• Blue Pheasant on March 28^th. Same food and room as last year.
• Need to let Lion Steve know if you are coming.
• Will ask John Smith to be speaker. He is moving away but will continue as an associate member.
• Awards ceremony.
• Need 4 Leos to watch over children.

–       Project Linus

• 6:30 pm at Odd Fellows Lodge.
• Lions Leslye and Claire in charge.

Volunteer Opportunities via Union Church

–       Lion Pres Jeff made it clear that we will not develop a formal partnership or otherwise program of cooperation with the Union Church.

–       Our club like all other Lions Clubs is a secular body.

Ear of the Lion

–       Sacramento Lions Club has asked if we could look into helping a Cupertino resident, Margaret Taylor get hearing assistance.

–       Financially she is making a little more than current limit however with high cost of living here, we think that she is deserving.

–       Lion Pres Jeff will submit a cover letter to Ear of Lion.

Other Charity Updates

–     Lion Al said we should consider replacing our signs.

–     Fairwaysponsors.com will make 18 tee signs and banner for $387.30

–     Lion Pete noted there is another sign maker near Hamilton and Winchester worth talking to.

–       Conditions have improved thanks to efforts of Lions John N and Dagi.

–       Tail Twister Lion Herb went around the room collecting happy dollars. Several were given over the events of the Super Bowl.

Student Speaker Contest

–       Thursday, February 5^th at Bellarmine Room of the Jesuit Retreat Center.

–       Volunteers are asked to show up between 6 and 6:15 pm.

–       Event will begin sharply at 7 pm.

–       Lion Don suggested we could hold it at the Odd Fellows Hall next year.

–       Contact Lion Walt for more info.

Project Linus

–       Save the date, March 5^th at 6:30 pm.

–       Lion Leslye again in charge.

P.M. Meeting Review

– 2^nd Vice District Governor Barbara Chamberlain and three others attended from the

Cabrillo Host club.

–       Golf tournament next year will be on June 13^th at Moffett Field. A motion was made

and approved to raise the price of the golf tournament next year to $120 or $130 if not paid by deadline.

–       Crab Feed had 587 people paid. Income above budget. However expenses were higher

than normal. Cost of crab $13.50/lb. We had to pay for everything from Fish Market. May have only net around $14,000 total

Good of the Order

–       Lion John Smith and Carmel are moving to Sonoma. House is for sale.

–       Both Lions Mort and Eli are on the mend. Lion Mort has pulled a muscle. We wish them a speedy recovery.

–       Lion Kent reported from the Cupertino City Council that they are losing money at the Blackberry Farm Golf Course and want to close it. Thinking of letting it return to a regional open space.

–       Share program card netted $104.80 last quarter.

–       Benevity program acquired $165 last quarter from Apple. This quarter have received $98.60 from Apple and Genentech.

–       Congratulations to Lion Ray for winning the opportunity drawing.

Jan Miller

–       All clubs should consider making donations to the Student Speaker Foundation. Our district has been assessed over $7000 for the work but to date only $200 has been donated.

–       Donations made to City of Hope should be earmarked for the Family Center.

Crab Feed

–       YOUR HELP NEEDED:

• Tonight, Jan 22^nd…6:30 pm work party at Lester Santos home, 3575 Sunnydale Ct, San Jose, CA 95117. Phone (408) 241-6135.
• Friday, Jan 23^rd…9:00 am, at Fish Market. A crew is needed to load up supplies.
• Saturday, Jan 24…10 am – 11:30 am…Food preparation at Buchser Middle School, 1111 Bellomy St, Santa Clara.
• Saturday evening & Sunday, St Williams Church. See our Lion’s website for Volunteer list.

–       Lion Al reported 300 tickets paid for early seating. 250 tickets sold 2^nd seating.

–       Lion Kent has asked the Leos to invite their parents to 2^nd seating.

–       Lion Steve thanked Lion Herb and Lion Walt for helping pick lemons on Wednesday.

Student Speaker Contest

–       Thursday, February 5^th at Bellarmine Room of the Jesuit Retreat Center.

–       Lion volunteers needed. Contact Lion Walt or Lion Dagi if you are willing to help.

–       Volunteers are asked to show up between 6 and 6:15 pm. Event will begin sharply at 7 pm.

–       We now have students registered from each of the 5 schools and 4 judges.
