Review of Board Meeting

Golf Tournament: Lion Al says the estimate net profit is $20,354 but continuing to rise. Ellis Street gate now open 7 days a week. Golf course is in good condition. Google plans to assess golf course needs in November. General consensus it that the food was not very good and beer was expensive. Lion Kent recommended we pay a fee to the golf course for food and beer but provide our own. Lion Steve has 2 donated golf clubs left over from the auction. Will save for next year.

AJ Robinson: We will be staffing the AJ Robinson medical screening van for the Silicon Valley Fall Festival at the Cupertino Memorial Park on Saturday, September 12th. A board member from AJ Robinson will be invited to a PM meeting to show how the equipment works.

Cupertino High School Debate Team: Their debate team is looking for donations. Board Meeting

7:30 pm, June 23, 2015

Knox Compound, 217 N Milton Ave, Campbell

Members present: Lion Pres Jeff, Lions Al, Bill, Vijay, Steve, Bernie, Ray, and Walt.

Financial Review: Golf Tournament

–       Tournament netted $20,054.35 about $3,000 more than last year.

–       The course was in much better shape than last year. Lion Vijay suggested it was a good time to lock it up for next year.

–       Need to have a post-mortem. Though very successful financially, the food was in need of improvement. It was suggested we offer to pay Moffett Field a fee for the food but then provide our own vendor. Outback is willing to donate the food.

–        Some of the other complaints: beer charges were high, the carts were not charged and ready in a timely manner, awards need to be passed out in a more timely manner.

AJ Robinson

–       We agreed to pay $195 for the use of the AJ Robinson van to staff the Fall Silicon Valley event at the Cupertino Memorial Park on Saturday September 12th. Lion Ray said we should probably donate a few extra dollars because we use their collision insurance when we rent a refrigerator truck for the Crab Feed.

–       It is estimated we will need 10 Lions and some Leos to staff the van in 3-hour shifts.

–       We will invite a board member from AJ Robinson to a PM meeting to show how the equipment works.

Eagle Scout Project

–       A Life Scout from troop #494 wants to team up with our club on a project to earn his Eagle Scout badge. Wants to set up a program to collect old eye glasses. We can provide collection boxes and literature.

Forward Edge Project

–       Claire Kalia has a friend/teacher who is going to Nicaragua to help setup and help out in a home rescue center. Needs some financial help. We agreed to donate $250. More information of the program is available at forwardedge.org

Budget Meeting/Tail Twister Party dates – These items will be discussed at the Board Meeting on June 23rd.

Golf Tournament – Looks like a very successful tournament. Lion Al estimated the net at about $20,0274.35. Thanks to Lion Amy and all who helped to make it so successful!

Some of the things that were much appreciated:

  1. New Tee Signs looked very professional. Kudos to Lion Ron.
  2. Golf Course was in much better condition than last year.
  3. National Anthem was played at the beginning of the tournament.
  4. Leos did a nice job with curbside service and in breaking down the tables and tents after the end of registration.

Some recommendations for improvement include:

  1. The Management was a little lax. We could have used a few more carts. Some of the batteries on the carts were not fully charged by the beginning of the tournament.
  2. Awards should be given out earlier and raffle prices given out last. People were leaving too early.
  3. Golf certificates not handed out to division winners.
  4. Food was not as good as last year.
  5. Lion Steve asked that anyone who helps taking down his PA equipment should please wind it on the reel rather than leaving in a pile.
  6. We should ask the Leos to bus their tables in the cafeteria when they are though.
  7. Personal Observation: Our lion golfers would have done better if they had bought more licorice.

Lion Eli suggested we hold a Reorganization Meeting in January.

Membership – It takes a lot of help to put on our events. Lion Ray asked that we ask our friends and neighbors about joining our club.

Good of the Order – The Odd Fellows Memorial Pancake Breakfast is a week for Saturday on June 27th. This is a great event that supports cancer charity. See attached flier.
