Tail Twister – Tail Twister Herb went around and collected Happy Dollar’s from various Lions. Lion Mort gave a Happy dollar for her daughter and family temporarily staying with them while their house is being worked on. Lion Kent gave a Happy dollar for the new club members that joined from the Ride4Diabetes.

Crab Feed 2018 – Lion Al said he met with the facilities manager of Saint Lawrence church. Lion Al said the facility is larger than Saint Williams was. He said we are looking at 270 at each seating. Lion Al said we have already sold 16 tickets. The great “Thrown Together Jazz Band” will perform. Lion Al said we need to give driving instructions to those who need it. There will be a drop dead date set for tickets group tickets not sold. The cost of the facility is $400 more that Saint Williams but includes dumpsters, security, liquor license, etc.

Thanksgiving Food Drive – The food drive will be November 18th – 20th. Lion John said Lion Claire and Lion Jen are doing a great job. They have got a third store (Lunardi’s) for the food drive. Lion John said he will get the boxes for the food drive but is asking Lion’s to ask their local markets for Apple boxes (we need approximately 30) that we use to transport the food from the stores to the Odd Fellows Hall. Lion John said Lion Jim Gould has reserved the refrigerator truck to pickup on Saturday morning. The two Lucky stores will need 3 tables each and one at Lunardi’s. Lion Kent said he would talk with the Leo’s about volunteers. We need to make sure we have sufficient volunteers and trucks for delivery on Monday morning. We need to be out of the Odd Fellows Hall by 9:30 AM Monday morning.

Student Speaker Contest – Lion Dagi said she received the material for the contest. Lion Dagi said Ellen is sending the material out to the schools and that we already have one student speaker signed up. Lion Dagi said that Walt is still providing support to her and Ellen. The contest is February 8, 2018 at the Odd Fellows Hall. They will also need volunteers to help out at the event.

Lion John reminded everyone of the Project Linus event tonight October 26th at 6:30 PM at the Cupertino Odd Fellows Hall. Lion Claire said she would be bringing the Girl Scouts again this year.

Lion Ray thanked Lion Al for filling in for him while he was gone and thanking Lion Dagi for doing the monthly MMR report that goes to LCI.

Lion Eli said everything went well at Omar’s Dream Run. Lion Scott Harris and Lion Mike Ringer took care of the table and chairs from the storage unit. Lion Eli said they had plenty of volunteers and thought there were about 400 runners.

Lion John Noone said he still had the monitor from the Ride4Diabetes and would like to return it to Lion Mike Ringer.

New Member – Lion Al introduced a new member, Lion Joan Chen.

Crab Feed 2018 – Lion Steve said the Diocese had to approve so now we have a venue at St. Lawrence church on February 3, 2018. Lion Al said talked about the seating arrangements for large groups and thought to just assign the groups tables and let the individuals set where they want. Lion Al said he would like to do away with ticket will call he said he would prefer to mail tickets to the individuals. Currently Lions Al and Steve will be co-chairs for the event. Lion John
Noone will put the event on the web site along with the PayPal info. We will have two seatings with approximately 250 people per seating. There is still concern about enough volunteers.

Thanksgiving Food Drive – The food drive will be November 18th – 20th. Lion John said Lion Claire will send out a sign up sheet for volunteers. A third store has been added to the event, Lunardi’s Market on Bascom Ave. San Jose. We will need to talk with Lion Don Lang concerning the capacity of the Odd Fellows Hall to handle more than the 160 families we now support.

Board Meeting Review – Lion Al said no action was taken at the Board Meeting as there was not a quorum. Lion Al said since there was not a quorum a motion could not be made since a motion duly made needs to be seconded and voted on. Any motions made at the Board meeting will be electronically sent to the Board and voted on. There were three motions made 1st – Funding for maintenance of the new website, 2nd Motion to approve the three new members to the club, 3rd Motion to approve funds to repair of Lion Mike Martins truck

Lion Joan Chen said she learned about us thru the Ride4Diabetes event that she rode in.

Lion John reminded everyone of the Project Linus event on October 26th at 7:00 PM at the Cupertino Odd Fellows Hall. Lion Claire said she would be bringing the Girl Scouts again this year. Lion Dagi asked Lion John to send out a notice using the list serve.

Lion Dagi said she and Lion Steve’s wife Ellen who volunteered to work on the Student Speaker contest will host it at the Odd Fellows Hall on February 8, 2018. They will also need volunteers to help out at the event

Crab Feed – Lion Al said we currently have sold 240,1st seating tickets and 134 2nd seating tickets. Lion Steve mentioned that the packing party will be tonight 1/26/2017 at 5 PM at his house. There were discussions about the various items that need to be done and that Lion Carl sent out the sign up sheet for the different tasks that need to be done. Lion Kent said the Leo’s and other youth organizations have signed up and we should have plenty of support. Lion Al will make the signs for the price of beer and wine. Lion Mort has the decorations. Salad prep is scheduled for 10 AM Saturday at Buchser Middle school. Currently we are looking pretty good. Charity Bike Ride – Lion Kent said there was a teleconference call last night 1/25/2017 at that we are hoping to have the website ready for testing this weekend and then launch on February 1, 2017. Lion Kent said we need to have our members send out the Ride4Diabetes to their LinkedIn contacts so we can get corporate bike teams and spread the word. Lion Vijay said he will set up the DBA for the Ride4Diabetes soon after the crab feed is done. Lion Ron will send the latest updates to the web master today. Student Speaker Contest – Lion Walt said we currently only have one student speaker signed up but Lion Dagi is contacting the schools again to se if we can get more. The Speaker contest is on February 9th at 6:00 PM at the Odd Fellows Cupertino DeAnza Lions Charities, Inc. Lions Club of DeAnza Corporation A.M. Meeting Minutes 1/26/2017 Hall in Cupertino. Tail Twister – Tail Twister Herb received Happy Dollars for the fire victims in Northern California.

4C6 Message – Lion Al talked about the message that District Governor Bob Stewart sent out to District members. It was brought up about donations to the fire victims in Northern California and what restrictions are put on the donations. Lion Al said he would bring it to the Board at the next meeting.

Crab Feed – Lion Steve said he is waiting for the response from Saint Lawrence church. Lion Steve said the person he is dealing with is awaiting the final okay from the church priest.

Food Drive – Lion John Noone said in talking with Lion Jen Smith they are looking at a third store for the food drive. Lion John said he believes it is Lunardi’s in the Campbell area. There was some concerns about the logistics of transporting the donated food to the Odd Fellows Hall.

Student Speaker Contest – Lion Steve said Lion Dagi and previous Lion Member Walt met with his wife Ellen to go over the event and what her responsibilities would be. The event will be held on Thursday February 8, 2018 with the topic of “Integrity and Civility plays what Role in Today’s Society”.

Lion John Noone talked about a project Linus at 7:00 PM October 26, 2017 at the Odd Fellows Hall.

Lion Al talked about the annual Teddy Bear collection for the fire and police departments to give to children who have been traumatized by an unfortunate event. The collection will go thru Dec. 8th, you can bring them in to the AM meeting or the PM meeting.

Lion Al reminded everyone that Omar’s Dream Run currently has 300 registrants and will be this weekend the 15th of October.

PM Meeting Review – Lion Al talked about the PM meeting:

Lion Charles recapped the Board meeting. It was brought up that the club was not in compliance with LCI club naming guidelines so our clubs official name now is: Cupertino De Anza Lions Club Charities Inc. so we are no longer in violation of LCI guidelines.
Lion Ray said Lion’s Dagi and John Noone were authorized $1,100 to update the clubs website with newer technology and has started updating the new website. Lion Dagi has asked for feedback on information now on the website or needs to be added or deleted.
The PU-101 for Club Board Membership for 2017-2018 was read by Lion Prez Jeff and then was voted on and passed.
Lion Amy, thanked the Lions that answered her survey and said there were still openings for committee chairpersons. She said we need to start getting golfers and sponsors.
Buchser Career Fair will need 12 Lions tables on May 9 and picked up the 10th about 11:30. They also need two-three volunteers to help guide the presenters into the parking lot and where to go with their materials.

Charity Bike Ride – Lion John said that Lion Kent has gotten “Krazy George” to attend the Ride4Diabetes event and possibly the band “The Grateful Dads”. Lion John said he had been tasked to try and come up with a walking path around McClellan Park for individuals who do not want to ride. We will be offering an early bird special with 40% off the registration fee if you sign up before the deadline of April 30th. Lion Dagi is putting these flyers on our website as well as the District website. Lion Sundar has been working extremely hard on the Ride4Diabetes website and it is looking great. He is currently working on getting all the social media pages attached to our Ride4Diabetes website to expand our advertising base.

Good of the Order – Lion Ray said he and Lion Eli took 4,528 pairs of glasses, 15 cell phones, 3 hearing aids, and a number of ink cartridges that we collected to the Vallejo. Lion Ray said that Lion Phil was the master at collecting the eye glasses.

Lion Ray mentioned that the new District Governor Bob Stewart was presiding over the swearing in of a large number of Nepalese people into the Lions Club both in Milpitas and Sunnyvale.

Lion Ron read a Thank You letter from both the YWCA and Rebekah Children Services for our kind donations which will make a positive difference in their future. These Thank you letters have been scanned and attached to the email.

Happy dollars were also given by the Members of the Los Gatos Lions. Lion Steve gave a Happy Dollar for Lion Carl going to look at Saint Lawrence church to see if it works for the crab feed.

Crab Feed – Lion Steve said he looked at Saint Lawrence church and has asked Lion Carl to check it out. Lion Steve said that the facility could hold between 300 and 450 people depending on the tables. Lion Steve said that the cost would include liquor license, insurance, dumpsters, and security. Looking at reserving it for Jan. 27, 2018.

Food Drive – Lion John Noone said he would contact the two stores for Lion Jen. Lion Kent said he would check with the Leo’s for volunteers. The food drive is November 18-20.

Student Speaker Contest – Lion Steve said his wife Ellen said she would help Lion Dagi with the event.

Lion Al said there are still donations coming in for Ride4Diabetes.

Lion John Noone talked with Deep Cliff golf course about night time golf and thought we might hold a tournament there. He forwarded the information on to Lion Amy for consideration.

Lion Ray talked about the upcoming LCI convention to be held in Las Vegas in July 2018. You can sign up on line at the LCI website. He said that he and Lion Eli planned on attending.

Lion Kent said he had talked with the Monta Vista Leo’s and they said they had a membership of 124 at this time and will hold their installation of new members in mid October.

Lion Kent said we had two new applications for membership which he gave to Lion Jill. He said one of the applicants is a Board member for the city of Cupertino.

Lion Al said that Omar’s Dream Run currently has 300 registrants.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Herb went around collecting happy dollars from all. Lion Eli gave a sad dollar for his granddaughter Sydnie’s volleyball team being 0-3. Lion Don Lang gave a happy/sad dollar for his wife who had a heart attack. She had a blockage and have a stent put in and is feeling fine now as is back home.

Crab Feed – Lion Eli said Saint Simon’s backed out of our agreement saying they do not partner with anyone so we are now looking for another venue. Lion Eli said he would look at the Quinlan center in Cupertino. Lion Ray said he had checked with Patrick Gannon at De Anza College and he said no. Lion Kent said that the Rotary has their crab feed there in the cafeteria. Lion Kent said he would talk with the Rotary and see if he can find out any info. Other places to check on are the Napredak Hall and the Elks club in San Jose and Los Gatos. Lion Ray said we need to get this solidified as soon as possible.

Omar’s Dream Run – Lion Eli said Lion Scott Harris and Lion Mike Ringer could use help returning the tables and chairs to storage on Sunday October 15th. Lion Eli said if you want to volunteer you must go to the Omar’s Dream Run website and register as a volunteer at omarsdreamrun.org/volunteer. Lion Al and Barbara Knox will handle day of registration.

Board Meeting Review – Lion Al said the ride4diabetes numbers are almost complete. Preliminary numbers show that the event lost about $2,000. Lion Kent said there were 87 riders registered with 16 no shows. Most of the proceeds came from donations. The Board will discuss what direction we want to take next year.

Lion Al said $1,000 each was designated for Hurricane Harvey and Irma victims. There is $3,000 dollars in unrestricted funds that will be designated for Melvin Jones awards.

Food Drive – Lion Al said Lion Jen Smith volunteered to handle the volunteers for the food packing and distribution. Lion Jen has already contacted the recipients. The food drive is November 18-20.

Lion Don Lang mentioned the Civic Influence Workshop at the Odd Fellow Lodge on this Saturday September 23, from 1-3 PM.

Lion Bill said Rick Webber from Camp Via has requested volunteers to help set up canopies on Friday October 6, 2017 from 1-5 PM.

Lion John No one sent out a survey questionnaire in fill able PDF format to all Lions for their input to the Ride4Diabetes. All input is to be anonymous.

Lion Steve said we currently have ten coupons left from Luxotica for our eye care exams. After they are used Luxotica is changing their method of support.

Lion Charlie met with Lions supporter Dennis Whitaker and discussed “Vision Walk” presented by “Foundation Fighting Blindness”. Mr. Whitaker said
Dr. Jeffery Libby President of the Northern California Affiliate to The Foundation of Fighting Blindness would like to speak at one of our Lions meetings.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Herb went around collecting happy dollars from Raider Lions and Sad dollars from 49’er Lion’s. Lion Eli gave a happy dollar for Lion Mort’s birthday. Lion John Noone gave a happy dollar for the successful NASA Cassini mission that is ending today. Lion Steve gave a happy dollar for us hopefully finding a place for the crab feed.

Omar’s Dream Run – Lion Eli talked about Omar’s Dream Run on October 15th and the need for volunteers to help Lion Mike Ringer. Lion Eli said Lion Scott Harris was going to help deliver the 8 tables, 20 chairs, and 2 canopies. Lion Eli said if you want to volunteer you must go to the Omar’s Dream Run website and register as a volunteer. It was requested by the Omar’s Dream Run Board that we do not have a membership tent set up.

Ride4Diabetes – Lion Kent was asked to give a presentation about the Ride4Diabetes to the Cupertino Bike/Ride coalition. Lion Kent said we could possibly gain two or three new club members from the event. Lion Kent said there will be a teleconference tonight hopefully to try and finalize the numbers so he can present them to the board.

 

Crab Feed – Lion Eli talked with a friend Mike Mench about the possibility of renting Saint Simons Church for the crab feed. Lion’s Jim Gould, Carl Erickson, and Steve Ratner looked at the church and said it looks like a good option as it seats 450 people and has a good kitchen. Saint Simons is in Los Altos off of Foothill Expressway and Grant Road. It was brought up that Saint Simons would like to partner with us in the event and feels they could possibly bring in 150 people and about 75 students to help out with the event, this will be brought up to the board.

Lion Don Lang talked about a Civic Influence Workshop at the Odd Fellow Lodge on Saturday September 23, from 1-3 PM. A flyer is attached for more information.

Lion John Noone said the release of the new version of our club website is up and running will put in the crab feed information as soon as it is finalized.

Lion Ray said he had not heard anything from the Santa Clara County Voters Registrar about needing volunteers for the upcoming election as of yet.

Lion Ray will send out an email asking for volunteers to help Lion Dagi with the Student Speaker Contest in February. Lion Don Lang said we could use the Odd Fellows Hall on any Thursday night.

Lion Eli said he had talked with Lion John Kolski and that he is in good spirits and looks good.

It was brought up about donating funds to both Hurricane Irma and Hurricane
Harvey victims. Lion Al said we had funds to donate and he would check to see how we could tie it in with Melvin Jones awards and discuss it with the board.

Two Days to Go

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Herb went around collecting Happy Dollars. Lion Ron came in two minutes late but the tail twister did not fine him.

Ride4Diabetes – Lion Kent said some of the feedback we received was that we need to do better is provide better info to both riders and volunteers. The main info riders were asking about is how much has been pledged to them. Lion Al said Eventbrite does not provide that information and it is difficult to gather that information but he is doing the best he can to provide that information to them. Lion Kent said Lion Scott Ludlum has volunteered to be the morning starting MC but we will need another volunteer for the returning riders/ riders. Lion Eli said Lion Jenni will be coming in at 9:30 and maybe she can do it. Lion Kent said we need to concentrate on getting corporate teams in the future. Right now Lion Al said the 60K route has the most riders signed up. Lion Al said he will be sending the registration report to Lion’s Claire, Jen, and Jeff tonight at 9:00 PM. Lion Al said he wrote up instructions on his registration database for Lion’s Claire, Jen, and Jeff. Membership is one of goals and it will be at the Lions canopy. Lion John Noone said there is a work party at his house Friday starting at 6:30 PM. Lion John said the SAG vehicles need to be returned to Frontier Ford at 10 AM Sunday.
