Lions Present: Lion’s Ray, Ron, Phil, Steve, Bill, Dagi, Mort, Eli, Herb, John, Joan, and Charlie.

Dates to Remember –

– July 17th, 6:30 PM DAL Board meeting at Lion Charles Ice’s home
– September 8, 2018 Ride4Diabetes
– Thanksgiving Food Drive November 17, 18, and 19th.

Tail Twister – Lion Tail Twister Herb received a Happy Dollar from Lion Eli for being back home from the LCI International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Lion Ray Happy dollar for a great convention. Lion Steve gave a Happy dollar for the notice from Tesla that he will be receiving his new Tesla on July 14th.

PM Meeting Review –
Election Day Volunteers- The club raised approximately $2,000 which is about half our administrative budget. Volunteers will be needed for Election Day in November so hopefully we can raise more funds at that time.

LCI Convention – Lion Eli, Mort, and Ray attended the LCI convention in Las Vegas. Lion Mort said It was amazing to see the world-wide international effects of Lionism. Lions Mort and Ray participated in the Lions Parade which included representatives from all over the world.

The 31s t Annual De Anza Lions Charity Golf Classic – The club made approximately $12, 000. This was a good event even though we had fewer golfers. Moffett has enjoyed having us and want us to continue coming for our tourney. Lion Mike Ringer will be the chair and we are looking at different dates in June for the tournament.

R4D 2018 Update – There were no R4D committee member in attendance to review what progress has been accomplished. They have some people signed up, but Lion John has mentioned we need to get the word out through social media and other avenues to get people signed up. The board has asked to have a representative at the board meeting next week for an update. Now that the golf tournament is over the club needs to support R4D.

Tail Twister Party – We usually have a tail twister party and the installation at the same time. We are looking at sometime in September after R4D.

Good of the Order – Lion Ray said that Lion Linda Sanders is going to chair Flag Day presentations. We need other volunteers to co-chair the Crab Feed along with Lion Carl. Lion Mike Ringer said he would chair the golf tournament.

Lion Claire inducted some new members in the Montgomery Village Lions club, including Lion John Smith (our former esteemed President) as the President of the Santa Rosa Lions club.
Lion John Noone asked about having a Lions emblem put on the “Welcome to Cupertino” sign. Everyone thought it was a great idea. Lion John and Lion Joan said they would approach the mayor about the sign.

Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations to winner Lion John Noone.

Minutes

Call to Order –  lion jeff

  1. Lion Charles Guest Tail Twister
  2. Election Day Activities for Lionism –  several Lions contributed to volunteer on July 5th, the county then gave money to the volunteers, who then donated it to the club. This accounts for almost ½ of our administrative budget.  There is another election in November, so consider putting that on your calendar. And, we got a letter-bonus! Election Pins were given to Lions Linda, Ray, Don, Dagi, Herb, Liang’s husband, Al, Barb, Ron, John and Leslye.
  3. LCI convention Las Vegas – Lion Eli, Mort, and Ray attended this year. It was amazing to see the world-wide international effects of Lionism. The outgoing president spoke in an arena holding 15,000 which was almost full. He presented the poster award to a girl from China who also spoke. A theme that was spoken of is “kindness matters”.  There is also a Lions app, so look for it! 1 million + members. In so many areas of the world, Lionism is taking off. The power of “we” was stressed. The Lions Parade included representatives from all over the world: Mort and Ray walked in the parade.
  4. 31st Annual Charity Golf Classic 2018: we made about $12, 000.  This was a good event even though we had fewer golfers, but we still will be able to use this money for our charities. ( For Jeff -Club Division Winner: Cupertino Rotary). Moffett has enjoyed having us and want us to continue coming for our tourney.  Lion Mike Ringer will be the chair and we are looking at different dates for the tournament that offer less of a conflict for our participants. The golf tourney is also a great social fellowship and a fun event. It would be great to have a marketing background, a current or new member, to help get our participant numbers up.
  5. R4D 2018 Update: no committee member is in attendance to review progress.  They have some people signed up, but Lion John has mentioned to get the word out through social media and other avenues to get people signed up.  The board has asked to have a rep at the board meeting next week for an update. But, we know that the ride will need support from our club.
  6. June Board Meeting Minutes Review: we have 90,000 in our bank account, which is right on the threshold of three years of operating costs.  This year we have earmarked to spend more on charities. We have a lot in our bank to cover the “deficit”, which you would see as 24,000 in the budget.  We are not counting on moneys from the ride, so what we get would be a bonus. Jeff is sending friendship banners to Sister Cities, such as one in Italy called “Coppertino” (No Joke). In traveling, Mort and Eli have enjoyed sharing pins, etc. with Lions clubs (such as Hawaii).  But if you can take a Friendship Banner and pins, wherever you travel if you see a Lions Club and go to a meeting. Where do we get pins and banners? Claire and Anil did the same in Curacao and loved it (3 course meal!). They meet twice a month and do this every time.
  7. Tailtwister Fall Fiesta 2018: We usually have a tailtwister party and the installation at the same time.  A competition was brought up by Lion Kent, that we should have a contest to see who can bring in the most riders. The event will be in the fall after the ride in later September. Lion Claire inducted some members in Montgomery Village Lions club, including Lion John Smith (our former esteemed) as the President.  Possibly, Lion John Smith could come down to do our installation for officers for this year.
  8. Club Leadership Opportunities This Lion Year – Many Paws, Light Work, AJ Robinson Mobile Health Screening Services, Flag Days, Via West Camp (Costanoan), Project Linus, eye exams & glasses via OneSight, THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE, Eye glasses recycling and other charitable causes in our community and around the world.  Bravo, Lions of De Anza, BRAVO!

to find out how you can be a leader in this club, to keep our amazing programs going! We are in transition and need Lions to step into the leadership roles because there are people who count on us.  Most importantly is CRAB FEED, to help Carl with the front of the house, since we no longer have Lion Jim to help us.

  1. Good of the Pride:
  • Lion Mort thanked everyone for coming and said that she isn’t planning on wearing the hat, but Jeff volunteered to take the hat.
  • Lens Crafters is no longer supporting the efforts in providing eye glasses to people in our community (formerly One Sight).  Anne and Ellen are working with West Valley to try to keep this program going. Right now, we are using Costco because the exam and glasses are reasonable.  The other place is in Santana Row which is helping out, too.
  • Lion Claire’s daughter is taking a box for glasses donation to her school.  We really need glasses in Vallejo, so it doesn’t take that much work to place a box in a location and collect once a month. If you need a box, Lion Ray will get you one.  You put your name and phone number on there so the place can call you if it gets full to come and get the glasses. Leave the box!

Meeting Adjourned: about 7:50.

Lions Present: Lion’s Ray, Ron, Phil, Steve, Bill, Al, Dagi, Mort, Eli, Herb, Don, Joan, and Charlie.

Lion’s Ray and Mort walked in the parade down Las Vegas Blvd. Lion Ray said that when him and his wife Barbara were at dinner their waitress learning that Ray was a Lion wanted to thank him and the Lions for sending her daughter who has diabetes to the Lions Diabetes camp every year.
