Lion Steve gave a happy dollar for the installation of a new security systemic their house.

Perpetual Fund – Lion Eli along with Lion Al talked about how we could fund the Perpetual Fund so that we would be able to fund a scholarship every year. We need at least $24,000 in some kind of money market or CD to to start the scholarship without drawing off the principle. It was brought up that once we get enough funds a committee should be set up to manage it.

Ride4Diabetes – Lion Kent said the sign up sheet for volunteers will be out soon according to Lion Andrea. Lion Kent said we are still short on volunteers and asked for help from the club to get them. Lion Ray talked about the AJ Robinson van and what kind of testing besides diabetes will be needed and that he would has three nurses to work the van from 8:30 to 12:30. Lions Charlie, Al and Eli will do the SAG vehicles.

Good of the Order – Lion Herb asked if someone could take care of the Flag and banners while he was gone, Lion Leslye volunteered.

Lion Ray said the date has been set for the golf tournament, it will be June20, 2020.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Herb went around and collected Happy Dollar’s from various Lion’s. Lion Eli gave a Happy dollar for Stephen Curry funding the golf program at Howard University. Lion Eli also talked about the Perpetual Fund at S.F. State and how the club could also raise funds for our perpetual fund. He mentioned that Lion Bill and Lion Phil has donated funds equal to their age to the perpetual fund for the last couple years. Lion Eli also said that Lion Steve and Lion Joan have also donated to the perpetual fund.

Board Meeting Review – Lion Al said the Board discussed :

R4D Account vs General Charity Fund – all the revenue from last event went into the Ride for Diabetes account, all expenses came out of the charity fund. Al moves that we move $22, 548.11 from R4D to charity account to finalize reimbursement, Leslye seconds it. No discussions following the motion. Motion passed.
R4D 2.1 Update: discussion of where to advertise and emails to club and Leos for ride and volunteers. There are 25 riders signed up, we have 8 volunteers, and the Leos. The event is from 10-12, but 8:00 to 1:00 is when we have the area reserved. The signup for our club needs to come out ASAP sent to the whole club . Joan and Leslye are in charge of the AJ Robinson van and Ray has gotten the nurses. The insurance timing is still an issue.
Omar’s Dream Run – October 20th. We will provide equipment, canopies, tables and chairs. Barb and Al will take care of registration and cash donations for the day. The DG after the AM visit, he presented it as an example of how Lions support the fight against childhood cancer.
Date of 33rd Annual Golf classic: June 20th, unless there are any major obstacles that occur.
Monta Vista Leo Club Treasury Proposal; Events and IT: Al has communicated with Ted and they understand the process and the advisor understands this and has no problem with it.
Al asked what Lion Leslye and the Noone family would like to do with John’s Memorial Fund. Leslye and the family would like it donated to Canine Companions. A puppy graduation with any club members that would like to attend will be proposed.
Two new charities are in our budget: Home First (housing for the poor) the donation to the Milpitas Service for Seniors. Habitat for Humanity: who is distributing the check.
Lions Club of Dandeli: the Secretary is in the area now, so we can issue a check to them now.
Lion Claire: My New Red Shoes, Dagi, Charles helped pass out new shoes to these children. Claire will email her the check.

Lion Joan said she attended the “My Red Shoes” along with Lion’s Dagi, Claire, and Charles. She said it was a little chaotic. The program is to help needy children start school with new shoes helping them feel good.

Lion Eli asked what he should do with the BBQ Barrel left over from the golf auction. He said the barrel has been on eBay for a couple of weeks with no takers. It was suggested that we lower the price. Other options are to keep it for the crab feed auction. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lion Leslye said the next Project Linus will be held on Oct. 17, 2019 at 6:30 PM at the Odd Fellows Hall in Cupertino.

Lion Joan asked about our clubs involvement in Lions in Sight. Lion Al said that we have $3,000 in the budget for that effort and that Lion Steve and Ellen are at the fore front of the vision project.

District Governor – Lion District Governor Rick Silveria gave us updates on District Projects –

Lion training every 3rd Saturday of the month from 9AM – 12PM. Training consists of training on new projects with LCI. The District is looking at video taping the meetings.
DG Rick talked about service in the communities and how important it is. Also talked about membership and trying to find out why we are losing members and how to recruit new members.
DG Rick also told us about the effort and delivery of 300 backpacks loaded with school supplies to Paradise for the children starting school. Also providing gas cards and other gift cards for those in need. The Lions club will distribute them with the help of other community members. DG Rick wanted to express his gratitude for the Lions clubs who helped in the effort.
DG Rick also talked about the AJ Robinson van and is asking for support of this effort providing Diabetes testing for those in need. Lion Al then presented a $1,000 check to the AJ Robinson foundation. DG Rick said the AJ Robinson foundation was asking LCI for a matching grant to help them purchase a new truck and trailer. The current old truck and trailer will be stocked with emergency supplies for disaster relief.
The District is working with the Lucille Packard children hospital to support children cancer victims with their schooling needs while they are under treatment in the hospital. Lion Al told DG Rick about Omar’s Dream Run and how we support them and how they provide iPads and monitors so the children can stay in class visa video streaming while they are in the hospital. DG Rick would like to make it a District project.

1st District Vice President Linda Pugliese –

1st DG Linda Puliese talked about training that she learned in Milan, Italy attending LCI International conference. She also attended the Council of District Governors conference in Palm Springs. There she learned the new subject for the Student Speakers contest and it is (Homelessness in California and what is the solution).
1st DG Linda also said the USA/Canada Lions forum will be held in Vancouver, BC this year.There will be 70 seminars presented on different subjects, there are 10 one hour sessions that you can get on line.
1st DG Linda also toured the Lions Eye Foundation in San Francisco. The state of California now allows our recycled eye glasses to be distributed to needy in California. Our district is looking at participating with Santa Clara Valley Med.

PM Meeting Review – Lion Al talked about Dr. Ann Lopez’ ,Director of the Center for Farmworker families, visit to the PM meeting. Lion Claire introduced Dr. Lopez who talked about the Center for Farm Workers Families. To learn more you can go to www.farmworkerfamily.org.

Club Budget – Lion Al said the club is solvent. He said he will make some charity donations early. Lion Al said we are expecting $1,100 in dues that are outstanding. Lion Al said there has been a R4D account set up and all the money in it is restricted for Diabetes spending only.

57th Annual Installation of Officers 4C6 – Lion Ray said the Installation of Officers for District 4C6. Lion Rick Silveria is the new District Governor and will be visiting the AM meeting this coming Thursday August 8, 2019. Lion Ray said he wouldn’t be able to attend and that Lion Leslye and Lion Phil will be attending in his absence. He said any Lion that wants to attend is welcome.

Ride4Diabetes – Lion Ray said Ride4Diabetes members will attend the PM meeting and talk about what they need as far as volunteers. Lion naysaid he has the AJ Robinson van set up and has three nurses to work the diabetes testing. Lion Kent said he talked with the Leo’s Club President and he said he would push for riders and volunteers for the ride. Lion Kent said that any money spent for use of the AJ Robinson van should come out of the Ride4Diabetes fund. Lion Al and Lion Andrea are trying to reconcile the budget for the Ride4Diabetes.
Lion Al said Lion Andrea has a print out of the donors for the Ride. Lion Kent said work still needs to be done on the website and the accounting for donations and spending on the Ride.

Lion Dagi asked if there is a Date set for next years golf tournament. Lion Ray said he was waiting for a decision from the Board. Lion Al said work needs to be done on the PayPal account and that we need to set up two different accounts. Lions Eli and Al presented a view of how we intend to go forward with our Perpetual Endowment Fund. Most decidedly finding a proper amount to start a dedicated funding account and a suggestion that a small percentage (.05% example) of a Lion’s estate be gifted to this fund.
Prospective Lion Sudha gave an in-depth status report on the 2019 Ride 4 Diabetes. A document has been made available in .pdf format containing the approved Cupertino DPW “Encroachment Permit Application,” maps of both the twelve mile and twenty-five miles routes, Certificate of Liability Insurance including the Risk Management Plan and an aerial view of the Cupertino Senior Citizen Center. Currently eighty-five are registered for the Ride and we have approximately thirty of the sixty volunteers needed. Contact Lion Andrea or Sudha and let them know you are available. There will be a final organizational meeting at Sudha’s resident on Saturday 9/7/2019 at 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
Al, the son-in-law of the original owners of Tony and Alba’s, made a generous donation to the DeAnza Lions. He created both a video and still photo of our meeting to be Confidential Document agk/je 09/04/2019 Page 2

displayed on their Facebook account and Instagram entitled “Have a Slice Day.”. He did this wishing to promote our Club and the work we do.

Center for Farmworker Families – Dr. Ann Lopez, E.D.
Ann is the executive director of the Center for Farmworker Families. She started the center was she was doing her doctorate in Mexico. A key piece of her work was the NAFTA agreement and the social and biological effects (corn genetics). GMO corn was cross-bred with resistant genetic strains, diluting the diversity of the corn genetics.

The workers make very impoverished salaries and work in conditions akin to slavery, exposed to high concentrations of pesticides.

The center do farm worker reality tours to see conditions and hear stories. They are also partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank. They advocate for farm workers.

India Sister Club, New Name, Same Mission: “Lion Club of Dandeli City”

They screened 400 patients this year and 61 surgeries. We hope to get Lion Prasad to join us in the next few months for an update from our sister club.

A.J. Robinson Mobile Screening Clinic – Need drivers, Training Provided

Lion Ray is at the Cupertino Host Meeting for the DG meeting
with Rick. Ray wanted us to mention that he’s on the board of
the AJ Robinson foundation. They need drivers (2) to drive the
truck and trailer of the mobile clinic. They offer training.

R4D 2019, Update – Simran & Sudha

Lots of progress and many things to do. The website is up-and-running,
which reflects all current info (registration and routes).

Rick at the Chamber of Commerce is going to post the event in his newsletter as well as several other newsletters. A note went out to biking clubs, with marketing efforts to start up on NextDoor soon. Goal is 100 riders or more on Sept 8th. Sudha has a list of volunteer tasks, to be published soon.

Next big thing is permits.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister Herb went around and collected Happy Dollar’s from Lion Kent for his father being the King of the Cupertino parade. Lion Ray gave a dollar for announcing the services for former Lion Chuck Hart. Lion Joan rolled seven for her birthday so all Lions had to pay a dollar, nice going Lion Joan.

Ride4Diabetes – Lion Ray said the ride will take place on September 8, 2019. The Ride will take place in the City of Cupertino at Memorial park starting at 10 AM til 1 PM. Lion Ray is working on getting nurses for the AJ Robinson van for diabetes testing for the day. Set up will start at 9 AM.

Lions in Sight – Lion Al said that we support the Lions in Sight program by providing $800 thru a per capita donation. Lion Ray said he and Lion Eli took our glass donations up to Vallejo.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray said there has not been a date set for next years tournament. He offered two dates June 13 or June 20, 2020. June 13th could be an issue since school graduations could be going on during that time. He would like to reserve a date with the golf course as soon as possible.

Good of the Order –

Lion Steve said that he and Ellen took Maria to the Lions Eye Foundation in San Francisco for an examination and come to find out she had pink eye.

Just a reminder that the Food Drive will be coming up November 23 – 25, 2019. Please set your calendars as we need all hands on deck.

Lion Ray wanted to thank Lion Liang for her donation of the Time Share condo in Anaheim for the silent auction.
