There are improvements to be made, but a positive event.

Lion Leslye said we could use her garage for a staging area for the Food Drive boxes. The question was raised if Lion Claire was going to contact the food drive recipients. Lion Al said the Rosemary Elementary school is open again and we usually provide them with about 35 boxes of food.
Lion Al and Lion Eli are working on the Perpetual Fund. One suggestion was putting a donation button on our Cupertino De Anza Lions web page. After funds start to grow we need to set up a committee to look at what we want to do with the funds. Lion Al said only the interest on the fund can be used and not the principal. Lion Al said we could take 20% out of our general fund and put in the perpetual fund if we want to do that.

Meeting Called By: Lion Jeff Type of Meeting: Business Secretary: Lion Jill

Board Members: Al, Jeff, Jill, Leslye, Jen, Claire, Vijay
Lions: Kent
Minutes: 6:33 Meeting Begins

R4D 2019 Recap: All expenses aren’t in, but sitting close to $16,000+ net, plus our donation to diabetes out of the account, some to AJ Robinson, and another Diabetes Youth Family. Lion Leslye volunteered to hold a few organizational meetings for the ride for next year. Leslye is going to adapt a feedback form for the club, with Sudha and Andrea for feedback. The weekend in September after Labor Day, on a Sunday, seems to be a good one. Sudha has expressed an interest in leading it next year.

Leos and the 4th USA/Canada Leo Leadership Forum: some documentation sent to Ted (Monta Vista) about the monetary issues, but they haven’t gotten back. September and summer are difficult times to get Leos to volunteer.

Omar’s Dream Run: transportation, tables and chairs, and cash sales are all taken care of for the day. October 20th. Al is the one who interacts with the run organizers.

Crab Feed 2020 Update (Contract, Chair, etc.) contract and date, February 8th, 2020. $3,200 for the location. Watch for buying too much crab, as we had too much last time. Band is already confirmed. Are Jenni and Carl still willing to run it? Al is willing to do ticket sales.

Issue for Big Events is Volunteering: how do we bring in more PMers to all events for volunteering? Could one of the jobs for an event be a volunteer coordinator for each event, instead of the chairs having to get all the volunteers.

LCI Help in Wake of Dorian: Do we want to send money? Do we want to send money to LCIF for Bahama Relief which gives the money straight to Lions on scene, who deliver the funds. Jeff motions that we send LCIF our 5,000.00 earmarked to the Bahama Relief fund through LCIF. Al seconds that motions. Unanimously approved.

Annual Donation Transfer to Dandeli Lions: $2500.00 will be given when Prasad Shirahatti can come to a meeting.

Various 4c-6 Updates: Peace Poster contest, Claire will check with Girl Scouts and then we will order packet, if needed. Denim and Diamonds contest in Visalia. in February for MD-4. The 4C-6 is in Santa Maria.Let Lion Al or Lion Jeff know if you want to go.

Student Speaker Contest 2019/20: packet ordered as requested by Dagi.

Good of the Order: Thank you cards coming in for various donations we have made, money collected in Lion John’s name for Canine Companions name has been donated and they have sent a video. Send check to diabetes that we intended to send for $500.00, and we want to get the check to Nuru. Rise to Hunger is in November and we will send $250 to them. Leslye wants to bring some Lions to a graduation at Canine Companions, maybe in March or April. Farmworker tour will be in spring, too. Project Linus: Joan, Jenni, and Carl will be helping for the October 17th date at Oddfellows Hall. Can the blankets be sent to Bahamas instead if there’s a need? Awards committee may be chaired by Lion Charles and if not, Al will take the responsibility back. Before we start advertising, it would be nice to show where the money from R4D went with a pie chart. Giving more to AJ Robinson is an idea. Maybe more to the Diabetes Camp for sponsorships for camp.

Meeting adjourned at 7:43.

Tail Twister – Tail Twister ProTemp Eli collected happy dollar from Lion Steve because he picked up the contract for the Crab Feed from Saint Lawrence for the board to look at.

Ride4Diabetes – The discussion started with many thanks to Sudha and Lion Andrea and Lion Muni for all of their hard work and everyone else involved. Thanks to Lion Ray for the AJ Robinson Van and Lion’s Leslye and Joan for supporting the volunteer effort for it. Discussions were held about the Ride and what things we might want to improve upon. Lion Eli made a list which I will attach along with the minutes. Here are some of the other comments made not listed on Lion Eli’s list.

Riders should check in both at the beginning and when they return.
We need to improve on publicity ie; Banner across Stevens Creek for the ride, maybe advertise at Farmers Market prior to the race.
See if we can criss cross the routes so that one or two rest stops are all we need.
Lion Joan mentioned that Lion John Noone put together a binder that we should use. The binder had a lot of information in it such as responsibilities of members, volunteers, permits etc.
It was brought up that setting up the route markers needs more time maybe do it the day before the ride or more volunteers to set them up.
Need to get and set the date for next years Ride so we can update the website and produce a flyer at least 6-9 months in advance.

Lion Leslye volunteered to send out a request for input from our members on the ride. It was also brought up by Lion Ray that Lion Danessa’s husband was a big help at the AJ Robinson Van (Thank You Richard).
Lion Al thinks we might net around 16 -17,000 dollars for the Ride4Diabetes. He still is waiting for all the expense receipts to come in. All Lions thought the Ride was a great event and we should improve upon it for next year.

Thanksgiving Food Drive – Lion Ray said it is time we started thinking about the food drive. Lion Ray said he will talk to Lion Mike about getting the Refrigerator Truck and driving it. Lion Ray said we also need to get new laminated signs for the food drive.

Good of the Order – Lion Ray said that if we were going to have the Christmas get together at his house this year it would have to be on December 7th.

Lion Leslye said she needs a volunteer to go shopping with her for the material for the next Project Linus. She also needs a teacher so we can get a discount on the material.

Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations Lion Ray.
