Board Meeting Review – Lion Eli said discussions about donations to two community services was very long. Lion Al said donations to Community SEVA ($1,000) was authorized after a member of Community SEVA gave a presentation of what they do and support was very compelling. There was also a donation to West Valley Community Services for an additional $750 which totals $1,000 for the year. Lion Al said Community SEVA was added to the June Budget for discussions. Lion Steve said he talked with his son who is charge of the Alameda County homeless project and his son said there is an organization called Destination Home that we might want to look at supporting. Lion Eli said he would contact them for information about their project. Lion Al said that the club also loaned the Monta Vista Leo’s club $300 for a project to make face masks for the community.

Lion Al said he received voter registration pins for our participation in the March primary election. He said he would hand them out to the Lion members who participated after the quarantine is over. Lion Al said he also received the check from the county for our volunteers which was around $1,793.

Golf Tournament – Lion Ray said that the Golf Tournament in June is canceled. After discussions with Lion Suda (Bike Ride Chair) it was decided that we will try and reschedule the golf tournament in September and the Ride4Diabetes will be rescheduled in 2021. Lion Ray will contact the Moffett Field course manager to see if we can set it up for September 12, 2020. Lion Steve said he has his updated mass mailing software almost ready to go. When he has it ready he will send out a notification about the rescheduled golf tournament.

Good of the Order – Lion Eli suggested that some of the money received from the Registrar of Voters goes to purchase some club clothing ie; Club shirts, hats, and jackets for new members to purchase at a reduced cost.

Lion Joan and Lion Dagi suggested that we put it in our Charity fund to help those in need.

Lion Ray said that the AJ Robinson foundation could use support since most of their funding comes 4c-6 clubs rent the diabetes unit for special events. All of these events have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic and they are in need of funds to help keep the project viable.

Lion Joan said that a group of volunteers are making face masks and asked if anyone new of people or organizations that needed them

It does say that they are continuing to improve the course. Lion Steve said Lion Al sent him a list of past golf attendees but the new software he installed for the mass mailing is not working. #1 West Valley Community Services
#2 Community Seva

Lion Jeff will send out an email with the information about “Seva Community Services” so club members can read what services they provide. These proposed donations will be discussed at the next Board meeting April 21, 2020. If you have any comments please send them to one of the Board members.

Lion Eli talked about possibly helping support individuals whether it be needy students, families, or homeless individuals. Lion Steve said his son is in charge of helping the homeless in Alameda County and would ask him about services in our area that we might support.

2020-2021 Board: If this conference call system works, this may be the better way for the board to meet. We need a couple Lions to step into board positions. Jeff said Sudha was possibly interested. Eli said he could also continue if we needed him. We need to present the list three times, and if there are no objections or additional nominations, then the board approves. This needs to happen in time for the new board to be entered by April 15. Jeff will talk to a few people and then get the list to Jill. Jill will distribute three times.
2020 Golf Chair: We need to ask someone to take over the chair or co-chair. We have all the committees covered, we just don’t have a lead person. Would Ron Ahearn be interested? Could he co-chair with Ray? Eli and Al will talk to Ron and Ray. We do need a chair and we also need to recognize that this event may not even occur if the COVID measures are still in place.
Motion: Perpetual Fund Brokerage Account by Lion Al
Whereas: Article IV Section 6 establishes the Cupertino DeAnza Lions Charities, Inc. Perpetual Fund. Whereas: It has been brought to the Board’s attention that there is a possible significant donation proposed to our Perpetual fund in the form of stock holdings. Whereas: The Treasurer has advised that a proper brokerage account must be established in order to receive stock holdings even to the point the holdings would be sold within a short period of time. Resolved: The Board of Directors do hereby authorize the President and/or Treasurer to proceed with establishing a proper account providing for the custody of Perpetual Fund donations and the ability to receive gifted stock holdings and other financial instruments of value. And, restricting said account to the preservation of donations and utilization of interest and dividends to legitimate charitable endeavors. Seconded by Eli. Discussion: Sell right away or use advisor to help with each donation.Votes: Motion passed as written, no nays, no abstentions. Discussion on going about a policy with regards to selling or holding.
