Several Happy Dollars were given in appreciation for the fine job Lion Ray did managing the AJ Robinson MSU for the Fall Festival. Lion Kent gave in appreciation for a successful month’s trip to Africa. Lion Mort gave a couple Happy Dollars in celebration of her and granddaughter Sydney’s birthdays on the same day, last Monday. Lion Eli then chipped in several more dollars after Lion Mort’s unsuccessful roll of the dice.
Silicon Valley Fall Festival/AJ Robinson MSU
All agreed our participation at the Fall Festival was a big success. Over 100 people were screened and we made contact with two possible new members. Thanks to all the Lions who turned out to help. Special thanks to Julie Harris and the other two nurses. Kudos to the Leos. They provided 4 or 5 members during each shift and were extremely helpful in translating for those people who did not speak English.
Crab Feed
The new secretary at Saint Williams Church told Lion Ray the price of renting the hall has risen from $1865 last year to $2925 this year. At the Board Meeting last Tuesday it was agreed that we would hold the Crab Feed anyway. Lion Prez Jeff will write Saint Williams a letter to see if they will lower the price for us. Moving the venue to the Elks Hall in San Jose or another location is also under consideration.
Omar’s Dream Run
The Dream Run will be on Sunday, October 11th at Hellyer Park in San Jose. Parking is $6. Walkers, runners, volunteers, and donations are needed. If you would like to help out, please sign up at their web site: omarsdream.org. We will need 6 – 8 Leos to help on the trails, parking, and passing out ice cream. Also need are 8 tables, 20 chairs, and 5 A frames.
Food Drive
The food drive will be the weekend before Thanksgiving at the same stores as last year. Lion John says the stores are very happy to have us and have offered to let us do it for Christmas also. Lion Mike will get the refrigerated truck. Lion Ray will get the boxes. Lion Yvonne’s Car Club has a member who has sent a check to sponsor 32 recipients. For more information please contact Lion John.
Good of the Order
The Student Speaker Contest has tentatively been set for February 4th, 2016 at the Odd Fellows Hall. All those willing to help should contact Lions Walt or Dagi.
Rebekah’s Children Services – Lion Don’s wife, Mary Lou, has agreed to come and speak to our AM meeting in 2 weeks about Rebekah’s Children Services. The Odd Fellow-Rebekah Children’s Home of California promotes the social, emotional, and physical well-being of children and families. Mary Lou is the organizations treasurer.
California Wildfires – In response to an email from District 4C6 the Board has agreed to send the Redwood Lions Foundation $500.
Lion Ron daughter’s company is relocating from the San Jose area to San Leandro. The company grows organic vegetables and has some pots, pans and other things they are getting rid of. Lion Ron says we can get them for free but need to act fast, within the next week or two.
Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations to our winner, Lion John.
