Review of PM Meeting

My New Red Shoes: Minh Ngo spoke on how her organization gives clothes to the homeless and low-income children for school. Lion Ray said the organization needs help through donations and volunteers who can go into the community and get and distribute shoes, help prepare gift baskets, and raise awareness. Thanks to Lion Claire for bringing Minh Ngo to the meeting.

Omar’s Dream Run: Netted $19,000. Thanks to all who helped out.

Food Drive: Lion John reported we still need volunteers at the Luckys stores especially for the 3 pm – 6 pm shifts. At least two adults are needed for each shift at each store. Please signup as soon as you can. Lion John reported that he talked to the stores and they are interested in putting butter for sale 2 for 1. It was suggested we put a newspaper ad in the Santa Clara Post and the Cupertino Courier.

Lion Ray said we should have a list at each store showing to whom we are providing the food.

Lion Steve says he and Ellen have collected 44 ½ boxes to transport the donated food. Still need another 10 boxes if you can help out.

According to their website, the Monta Vista Leos have many of the shifts covered at the El Paseo store. No information was available on Leo help for the Santa Clara store that was handled last year by De Anza college Leos.

Blind Center: Make sure to show up for Bingo on our assigned evening. If you cannot make it you should switch with someone else. Lion Ray said he would send out a message two months early to remind people. Lion Ron noted there was an open slot on Dec 21st. Lion Ray offered to fill it.

Good of the Order

Crab Feed – There is likely to be a delay in opening of crab season this year because of harmful algae blooms caused by the warming of our offshore waters. We should have more information by November 7th. May have to switch to shrimp or cancel the crab feed. Lion Al reported the first seating has 270 tickets reserved. Those not confirmed by December 15th will be released. The second seating is wide open.

Christmas Party – Please let Lion Al and Barb know if you are coming to the Christmas party and what you would like to bring. Lion Al says they will need 3 Leos to help watch the children between 5:30 pm and 9 pm. Currently there are 28 adults and 8 children signed up. A planning meeting is scheduled for November 12th. Contact Lion Al if you would like more information.

Student Speaker Contest: Letters have been sent to each of the principals and emails to each of the debate coaches of the Fremont Union High School District inviting their schools to participate. Because of the popularity in past years we are asking each school to pick one representative and one alternate. This year the contest will be held at the Odd Fellows Hall on Thursday, February 4th, at 7 pm. Contact Lions Walt or Dagi if you would like to help.

Rebekah Children’s Services: We received a Thank You letter from Rebekah Children’s Services for our $500 donation to their 13th Annual Festival of Trees Gala.  Rebekah Children’s Services is dedicated to promoting the social, emotional and physical well being of children and families. For more information contact Lion Don.

Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations to our winner, Lion Herb.
