First Line of Business is to remind everyone that Lion Joan Chin will receive her Volunteer of the Year award from the City of Cupertino. There will be an official award given out on October 14, 2021 at 5:30 P.M. in the City Hall plaza. We would like club members to attend the ceremony to support Lion Joan at her award ceremony.
Blind Center – Lion Ray talked about the Lions In Sight recycling project held on September 25th at the Blind Center. Lion Ray said there were members from the Hanford Lions Club that attended the event. For those that don’t know Hanford is about 180 miles southeast from San Jose. Lion Ray said that an LCI grant to the Lions Blind Center gave them the opportunity to purchase two machines that are able to read the prescription of the glasses. This helps out the Vallejo warehouse so they do not have to go thru all the glasses that we send up to them.
Thanksgiving Food Drive – Lion Steve says he has 28 apple boxes and Lion Ray has six. Lion Ray said that Lion Jim Gould is helping him with the rental of the refrigerator truck from Penske. Lion Ray said he talked with Lion Mike Martin and he is coming down from Reno to help us with the food drive. Lion Ron will check storage to see what items we might need to get. Lion Ray said he would check with U-Haul on the boxes for the food drive. Lion Kent said he had talked to the new president of the Monta Vista Leo’s about putting this event on their calendar. Lion Kent also mentioned that the club only had forty members at this time.
Camp Via West – Lion Joan said Rick the Camp Via West manager bought some canopies for their Via West Fall Festival. Lion Joan was asked to invite Rick to one of our A.M. or P.M. meetings to present him with the check that the Board approved to give him for his retirement. Lion Joan said the City of Cupertino sent out a videographer to take some video for her presentation.
Lion Al asked if there is any way we might be able to estimate
how many individuals the garden donations have served. Lion
Joan said she had a talk with one of the students teachers because
they are coming at unpredictable times. Lion Joan said they are
all good children. Lion Joan said the children picked some of the
sun- flowers and made bird feed out of them. Lion Joan is look-
ing at putting down some plastic in the green house to collect the
excess water so we don’t waste it.
Good of the Order – Lion Dagi asked about the Student Speaker contest and if we should order the information packet for the contest. Lion Ray said he thought we had ordered it but he would check to make sure.
Lion Al said he would be taking clothes collected by Lion Claireand stored in her garage to the farm workers down in Watsonville on October 7th.
