Tail Twister – Tail Twister Lion Herb collected donations from all members in attendance. Lion’s Herb and Ron rolled the dice for their birthdays. Lion Herb had to pay $3.20 and Lion Ron rolled a seven which means all other Lions had to pitch in a dollar which is good for the club.
Lion Joan’s Award – I want to remind everyone that Lion Joan Chin will receive her Volunteer of the Year award from the City of Cupertino this Thursday October 14, 2021 at 5:30 P.M. in the City Hall plaza. We would like club members to attend the ceremony to support Lion Joan.
Thanksgiving Food Drive – Lion Steve says he has 28 apple boxes and Lion Ray has six. Lion Ray said that Lion Claire and Lion Jen will once again head the event. Lion Claire will send out a volunteer signup sheet for the event and will work Lunardi’s store in Los Gatos. Lion Jen will run the sorting and distribution operation at the Odd Fellows Hall. Lion Ray said that Lion Mike Martin will come down from Reno to help with the Refrigerator truck. Lion Dagi said she would update the web site with the new QR code and other information related to the food drive. Lion’s Ray and Ron will go to storage to see what supplies we might need for the food drive. It was discussed on what to do with any funds left over from the donations received from the food drive and it was decided we could donate it to either West Valley Community Services or Sunnyvale Community Services to help with their effort.
Camp Via West – Lion Joan said that Camp Via West was getting ready for their Fall Festival. She said that parking would be at the Quarry and then passengers would be shuttled to the camp. Lion Al mentioned that Lion Joan did a great narrative on what is happening at the camp including the amount of vegetables that we have harvested for the kids at the camp and donated to West Valley Community services and the number of volunteer hours.
Crab Feed – Lion Carl discussed at the PM meeting that they have already started preparation for our Annual Charity Crab Feed has begun. Lion Carl said they are looking at possibly doing a hybrid version of the crab feed where we would not only do the dine in version but also make available to go orders. Lion Carl said we would limit the seating to 250 to help with the service. Lion Steve will talk with the church to solidify February February 5, 2022 and their Covid policy. Lion Carl is reestablishing contacts, and said we should start soliciting for the Raffle and Silent Auction items as it is not too early. Again, like the Food Drive, volunteers will be needed. Lion Kent said he had made contact with the MontaVista Leo’s and they have put the crab feed on the calendar.
Clothing Donations – Lions Al and Barbara and Lion Ray has taken two car loads of donated clothing to a distribution place in Watsonville to help out the migrant farm workers. Lion Claire collects the donations and stores them in her garage at which time we shuttle them down to Watsonville. Lion Barbara also noted that if anyone has other items like baby items and shampoos and creams that you have collected from your hotel stays you could also donate them. If you would like to volunteer to shuttle bags of clothing down to the distribution place in Watsonville send Lion Claire an email to set something up.
Good of the Order – None
Opportunity Drawing – Lion Ann won the opportunity drawing and donated it back to the club. What a great lady and thank you.
