A.M. Meeting Minutes for 1/23/2020

Lions Present: Lion’s Ray, Al, Ron, Phil, Don, Steve, Bill, Mort, Eli, Kent, Linda Joan and Charlie.

Tail Twister – Lion Tail Twister Temp Eli went around and collected happy dollars, for the 49er’s big win in the playoffs. Lion Eli gave a Happy dollar for being accepted as a member of the Lions Board. Lion Steve gave a Happy Dollar for his TESLA still running. Lion Mort gave a Happy Dollar for Lion Steves wife Ellen joining the Red Hats Society. Lion Charlie gave a Happy dollar for Lion Eli becoming a Board member.

Student Speaker Contest – Lion Joan said that they have the judges for the contest set up. Lion Joan went to the various High schools to ask about student speakers. As of this time we have no speakers but she will continue to asking the schools. The contest is February 6, 2020 at the Odd Fellows Hall in Cupertino. The contest starts at 7:00 PM the doors open at 6 PM. There will not be any allowed in after the contest has started.

Crab Feed – Lion Al said the first seating is virtually sold out and we have tickets available for the second seating. The Crab Feed work party will be on February 5, 2020 starting at 5:30 PM. Lion Steve said he sent out an email concerning the work party asking people to sign up so he knows how much food he needs to get. Lion Ron got Lion Steve the eight bankers boxes from storage that he requested. Lion Ray asked for someone to handle the prep of the tables and Lion Linda said she would assemble the table set up bags at Lion Steve’s work party. Lion Joan said she would look into the purchase of the real table cloths for the tables instead of paper ones. Lion Steve reminded everyone that the cleanup work party on February 9, 2020 will be at his house starting 9 AM.

Santa Clara Voters Registration – Lion Al said we were looking good for the voters registration pickup. The only time not filled in at this time is on February 29, 2020. If anyone would like to volunteer (Driver and helper) then we will have all the spots filled.

Charter Night – Lion Ray sent out an email concerning Charter Night scheduled for Saturday March 14, 2020 starting at 5:30 PM. He will send out a copy of the menu and cost in early February when he returns.

Voter Registrar Volunteers – Lion Al said that our days to volunteer are February 29th and March 1 thru March 3rd. Lion Al sent out a sign up sheet for volunteers. All of the precincts that we will collect ballots from are in the Cupertino area. Lion Eli suggested that the money we receive from the SCVR go towards buying club shirts and hats for the new members or into the perpetual fund.

Good of the Order – Lion Joan talked about Cupertino Earth Day coming up and that we need to update some club flyers with corrected information so we can hand them out at various functions such as the Crab Feed, Earth Day, and Cupertino’s Volunteer day. Lion Al said he could take care of ordering the LCI flyers.

Lion Kent talked about a new organization being started and asked if the club would like to help out getting it started to becoming a 501c3. The organization is
a World War ll veterans association. This would be similar to the support that we provided Omar’s Dream Run in the beginning.

Opportunity Drawing – Congratulations to Lion Al who finally one one.
