Camp Via West – Lion Joan said that the watering system is working well. Discussions were held about building bird netting cages for some of the vegetable gardens that we can remove easily to harvest the crops. Lion Joan said she ordered a tube bender for the metal hoops that we will be installing for the netting over the vegetables to protect them from the birds and ground squirrels. Lion Leslye offered her backyard to make the hoops in and then we can take them up to the camp. Lion Joan said we have harvested about sixteen bags of different greens and donated them to West Valley Community Services food bank. The goal is to provide the vegetables for the children at the camp once they are able to return for their meals. Lion Joan also mentioned a charity organization that teaches individuals how to plant and maintain their own garden. We could start seedlings in the green house and provided the seedling plants to the organization to give the individuals a start. Lion Steve said he will contact Lion Bill and Rick (Camp Via West Manager) about setting up a train set. Lion Steve will talk with Lion Bill to see when he is available to go up.
Golf Tournament – Lion Al said at this time we have received $8,043 dollars in golf donations. There was $2,105 donated by non-lions and $5,938 by Lions. Lion Ray said it was great idea from Lions Carl and Jenni for the Go Fund Me page with many thanks to them for spearheading this effort. Lion Al said there was still money coming in and Lion Ray said he just sent in a check.
Registrar of Voters – Lion Ray or Lion Al will send out the sign up sheet for different volunteer opportunities. Please take a look to see if you might be able to sign up for one of the vacant spots. Help make some money for the club. This could help support our Food Drive effort if we are not able to collect food due to the Coronavirus guidelines. Lion Ray was hoping that with 46 members we might be able to fill all of the spots and make approximately $2,000.
Project Linus – Lion Leslye went shopping with Lion Jenni to get the material and other items for the Project Linus Zoom blanketeering kits. They purchased 77 pieces of fleece that she will then put together packets together for individuals to pick up at her home on September 12th for the Zoom event on September 19th from 10 AM to Noon. Lion Leslye said that Lion Claire and her daughters girl scout troop will be putting together some of the blankets. Lion Claire said that she has even had interest from her daughters school who would be interested in helping with the project. Please join in as it is a lot of fun and supports a good cause.
Food Drive – Discussions were held about what we could do pending the Covid19 restrictions. Lion Steve and Lion Ron checked with the Lucky stores that we currently use and they said at this time we were not able to because of the coronavirus restrictions from the County of Santa Clara. There were discussions about the Lions exposure to all of the individuals coming and going to the store. It was brought up that Lion Jenni brought up at the PM meeting that we should check with the charities that we provide food to see if they are able to receive and distribute the food and what kind of food would be best and work from there. Lion Don said we need to check with the County to see what their restrictions were concerning the collection and distribution of food.
Good of the Order – Lion Leslye said she had heard via a blog that Lion Linda’s surgery went well and that she would be in ICU at least thru today and hopefully be moved into a regular room tomorrow. Lion Leslye and Lion Claire will set up a signup sheet to help provide dinner for her and her caretakers after she is released from the hospital so watch for the signup sheet.
Lion Leslye said she has set up Canine Companions for Independence speaker for the October 7th PM meeting. She will have two of the dogs with her one puppy and one that has already started the training to share with the club.
Lion Al said that the Perpetual fund has been set up with Charles Schwab and he will send that information to whomever wants to donate to the fund. Lion Steve and one of Lion Leslye’s sons-in-law wants to donate some stock also to the fund so Lion Al will provide them with the information.
Lion Leslye said she will send out information for a blog site that has been set up for Lion Linda Sanders so individuals can keep up with her progress.
