Earth Day 2025 – Lots of Fun in Cupertino

Earth Day 2025 came early this year, at least for the attendees, exhibitors, and us at the Cupertino DeAnza Lions Club, as the “Arbor and Earth Day” festival was scheduled for April 5th, almost 3 weeks before the official date.

However, we were well prepared, and a small delegation of Lions, helped by a cheerful team of volunteers, set up two stalls at the Cupertino Fairgrounds behind the library.

As in previous years, we combined marketing our club by handing out cards showing our service activities with our involvement in Camp Via West, especially the garden. Three seasoned Lions involved passers-by in discussions about the club while they selected from a large variety of free seed packages, which were left over from the Camp Garden. Another Lions team invited young and old visitors to seed sunflowers that could be taken home in a nice cup, wrapped in a practical paper carry bag.

So far, no new members have been registered following this event; however, 2 students connected with Lion Kent. They volunteered to help us spiffy up our social media presence.

Another two high school students offered coffee grounds to be used as fertilizers in the Camp Garden; they promised to contact Lion Joan.

All in all, a very worthwhile, fun event on a beautiful spring day – we plan to be there again next year.
